Hunting Problem in Unit 6C New Mexico

Not to Happy right now.  If it doesn't rain any in the next couple weeks, hunting in Unit 6C of New Mexico could not happen.  The los Conchas fire does not help ether.  just talked to Forest service and if it don't rain soon, they don't plan on opening any gates and don't plan on letting anyone in to the Forests.  NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!!!!

I just experienced something

I just experienced something similar, where I live they have a wildlife refuge which hold big whitetail and they only allow 100 hunters per year. This takes many years to draw this tag, well this year i was one of the lucky ones (or so I thought!), got the email that says congrats and by the way due to the flooding on the Missouri river this hunt has been cancelled (hunt taks place in December). I was bummed to say the least.

That sucks Smitty.  Hopefully

That sucks Smitty.  Hopefully the monsoon season will start soon, and you guys will get dumped on.

Has there been anything put out by Fish and Game about how the elk and deer herds survived the fire?  We've had 2 here in the last 5 years that were both over 300,000 acres. Initially the herds are thrown into disarray, but when you get a little rain, and that nice new green growth starts to sprout up, it's like a buffett for those critters.  The long term affect is great, but unfortunately for people like you who are slated to hunt so soon after the fire, it might be tough.

Hope everything works out for you!

No the game and fish haven't

No the game and fish haven't put anything out yet.  Its the Forest Service that will screw things up here.  They are now for closing gates and not tell the game and fish or the public.  They are right now worried about a few major canyons and the water flow after rain.  One canyon next to town has are local ice skating rink and part of are nationals lab in it.  Another burn are could washs the only road out going up in to the mountains.  the other issue is fall trees again.  last time they waited to open a few areas for almost 2 years.  I think they learned this time that they better go in and nock them down before there is a up rising!!

I will keep you all posted.

Good luck with your season. I

Good luck with your season. I thought the worst was over for you when the fire was finally over and you were able to go home. We wait too long for some of these tags to then have them taken away so easily.

We will be waiting to hear how it goes.
