You need to crack open you wallet and buy a map. Get a Delorme for your state. Also get a hunting regulation pamphlet. Use your state game departments website to help identify areas you are allowed to hunt and shoot in. Many private timber compaines allow hunting and other uses, some even keeping gates and roads open for users.

There is no way that we know where you live in vancouver, to steer you to a good area.

My suggestion is to drive uphill.

As far as hunting goes. HOW close to Vancouver do you want to stay. The Olimpic peninsula is a great area to hunt.

We always go up to the burn and hunt in the Washougal Unit.  I think that there are many units for you to hunt up there and many places to practice shooting.  The 1100 road takes you just about anywhere you want to go.  If you go to any Fred Meyer they have a game book and it will show the units that you can hunt in.  You can go to Wholesale sports or Dick's and buy a game unit map if you like a certain unit.  The maps run about 15.00.  Hope I was helpful.

If your in need of a really good game management map ARNOLDS maps in Vancouver are the best !! if there's a road in the unit you want to hunt its on that map !!!!!!!!!!!! these are excellent maps.

There are some really nice deer in the Washougal unit(big) because its so BRUSHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(thick)and they just recently changed the boundries so you want a good map,drive it in the summer time when the roads are clear and learn the boundries remember the Battlegrounbd unit is shotgun or muzzleloader unit only !!!!

I missed a huge 5x6 buck in the Washougal unit, and then shot the spike following him, lol. But I would go Washougal if you are by Vancouver (I grew up there) but you have to get off the dang roads, and actually hunt. There are big deer there.
