Hunting an Elk Wallow in North Idaho

Would someone be able to tell me when the best time of day is to hunt an active Elk Wallow? I would think the late afternoon but I am not sure. If this is the case, I would rather scout and call early morning rather than waste time sitting over a wallow. Also, is this a good strategy for archery?
Thanks much for the help.

WHEN ELK ARE PRE-RUTTING THEY WILL COME INTO A WALLOW ANY TIME THE GOOD THING ABOUT ELK ARE THEY NEED TO WATER, A BIG MULE DEER WILL GO A FEW DAYS W OUT. BACK TO THE ELK IF IT RAINS AND THE BULLS ARE RUTTING THEY COULD GET MOST OF THERE WATER THREW THEIR FEED, BUT THAT BULL WILL NOT BE FAR FROM WATER. WERE I HUNT THE ELK ARE GOING TOWARDS WATER IN THE AFTERNOON, WATER AT NIGHT AND THEN EARLY MORNINGS HEADING BACK TO THEIR BEDDING AREA. DURING THE RUT THEY JUST FOLLOW THE COWS AND TRY TO KEEP RAGS AWAY. IF YOU FIND A WALLOW THAT HAS GOOD SIGN BE PATIENCE AND STICK TO IT. DO A LITTLE CALLING AT NIGHT AND LOCATE THEM. I HAVE GOOD SUCCESS WITH THAT. HERE IS A PIC OF A BULL OVER A WALLOW WITH TREE CAM AT 11PM. CLICK ON THE PIC. GOOD LUCK

Thank you so much for the info. Everyone on here has been great and pretty much spot on. Hope to be posting my bull soon then. I know it is a good wallow, nice and secluded, good trails and lots of sign, and it is always that brown muddy color with plenty of tracks.
Thanks again
