It was a no go hounds got at the site and drove the bear off of the bait, has not been back since.

That stings... Were they your hounds or somebody else?

As skiddish as that bear sounded (from what you wrote) I bet you won't see him again. You going to keep trying to trap?

No, it was not my hounds. I don't own any.

I won't keep trying this year.
That bear will never look at a bait again.
Not during the day that is.

HI TO ALL YOU HUNTERS, WELL I GOT A GOOD STORY TO TELL YOU ABOUT! KINDA LIKE THE ONE THAT WAS TELLING US ABOUT THE DUMP SITE WHERE THE GAME.COM. PUTS THE ROAD KILLS AT . I FOUND A GOOD BLACK BEAR SPOT THIS YEAR BY ACCIDENT. I THOUGHT I FOUND A GOOD DEER SPOT TO BOW HUNT. AND THE FIRST TIME I WALKED UP THE HILL SIDE TO FIND A TREE I SEEN A BLACK BEAR AND HE SAW ME AT THE SAME TIME. I STARTED BACK TO MY TRUCK JUST PAST THE DUMP SITE.THEN I SEEN TWO MORE BEARS STARTING UP THE SIDE OF THE HILL THE SAME WAY I WAS GOING. I STARTED A FAST WALK BACK I WAS VARY UNAWARE OF THIS DEER TRAIL TO BE A BEAR TRAIL. WELL TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORTER OF MY HART BEAT THAT MORNING I THINK THE BEAR FALLOWING ME BACK TO MY TRUCK WAS THINKING OF A FREE FRESH LOUNCH PACKED IN WALKING TREE TRUNK, BUT NOW I HUNT THE OUTHER SIDE OF THE RIDGE FOR NOW. THE FIRST DAY OF BEAR SHOULD BE GOOD HUH? IT WILL BE MY FIRST TIME . BUT IT HAS BEEN A LIFE TIME DREEM OF MINE. JEFF FROM P.A.

Great! I would like to hear your story either way. I have never hunted black bear, but have been in situations where they were being trapped (nuissance bears).

Are you bow-hunting the bear or using the rifle?

I KNOW I NEVER HUNTED BLACK BEARS EITHER I ALWAYS WANTED TO THIS WILL BE MY FIRST YEAR. AND I AM GOING TO TAKE THE GUN THIS TIME. MAYBE NEXT YEAR ILL TAKE THE BOW IF I DO GOOD THIS YEAR. THAY SAY IF YOU GET ONE BLACK BEAR IN YOUR LIFE TIME OF HUNTING YOUR DOING GOOD. BUT I HAVE TO SAY I THINK ITS A TAD BIT BETTER NOW DAYS THAN WHAT IT WAS YEARS AGO. THERE IS NOT AS MANY BEAR HUNTERS AS YEARS AGO .AND IV SEEN A LOT OF BEARS THIS YEAR AND THE 19YRS IV HUNTED IV ONLY SEEN 2 BEARS IN THE WOODS! AND IM NOT THE ONLY ONE IV BEEN LISTENING TO OTHER HUNTERS AND THE GAME.COM. SAYING THE BEARS MADE A BIG COME BACK! AND MORE HUNTERS ARE SEEING A LOT MORE OF THEM THIS YEAR THAN EVER....

Good luck man! I have heard that the eastern black bear population is steadily growing so you should have a good shot in PA.

Supposedly this years CO black bear hunting is good because we had a drought, keeping the bears out forage and moving around longer. CO only has a fall black bear hunt.
