I never hunted antelope,but anytime I have seen them they are usually a half mile away,and if I stepped towards them a foot or two they took off. I dont want to hunt them by a water hole seems to easy.But an old sniper friend of mine told me, that back in the sixties he shot alot for meat to eat during the long winters in wyoming. He used a stick about 5 feet long with a white cloth on one end and just waved it and lowered it.Waiting about 20 minutes he did it again.Then he looked around to see if any antelope were visible.After repeating the flag waving several more times the antelope would be attracted to see what the white flag was that they got so close that he could shoot them within 50 feet.Has anyone else ever tried this? If not maybe we should.
I don't know. Sounds like a little bit of a fish story to me. 50 Feet????? That's pretty darn close for a lope, and they are notoriously cautious animals.
I guess anything is possible though. I'd be interested to see what you get for responses.

I admit it could be a wild story,but that is why I'm asking other ppl's advice on it,ya just never know what might work and what is like you said a fish story.I do take everything with a grain or two of salt.Seeing is believing.
The white flag is an old trick. It works.
Waving a blanket works too.
My brother brought his big yellow lab out into the field and a buck walked in very close - interested in the lab.
Antelope are very curious. There are lots of ways to lure them in.
Have heard about the white flag idea but I have never tried it. i think you could get one to fifty feet but you would have to be hidden and the only thing they could see would be the flag. They are very curious but also very wary. I did however walk to with 100 yards of a buck this last season. I he bedded down and I bumped him up he ran about 75 yards and stood there and watched me walk right up to him. the wind was straigjht in my face and I just kept walking at him not sneaking or anything like that just a normal...had I had a buck tag he probably would have run out of the county.
My grandpa has mentioned this tactic to me before. He never hunted them himself but a bunch of his rancher buddies from Oklahoma would make a trip up to Wyoming every year back in the 60's and 70's and they used the white flag method. He said it worked like a charm. I'm not sure about 50 feet but it definitely got results for them. I didn't think that there were that many other people that used this technique but if you guys have heard of it too than it must be used more than I thought. And I thought that those old timers made it up... well maybe they did on second thought.
I have read that antelope have extremely good eye site.Also that they are very curious and that must be where they get in trouble with someone waving a white cloth or flag.The trick I guess is to stay hidden each time you wave the flag and just take your time waiting to see if anything is coming your way.
