FL bubba, 500 Smith? When do you think you'll get it? Where are you in Florida? I used to live there and have hunted a lot of hogs in FLA!

Yea, 500 S&W, dont know what I was thinking. Brick Wall,)
My uncle hunts bear up north, he is talking about getting one as a sidearm for those guys. We share guns, and he lives down here. The new plan is to let him buy that and I get to shoot it. My end of the bargain is to get a Legacy Puma by Rossi with holo sights for a brush gun/carbine and let him use that whenever he wants.

I have 40 acres in Balm Riverview that butts up to 3,000 federally protected acres of county property. Hunting used to be year round, now the migrations and patterns are all screwy due to a nearby development. I started hunting pigs cuz I think I can keep them coming in when the deer are too skittish anymore. Still learning.

To answer your question I think I should tangibly have access to the 500 in the next month. Never hunted with pistol before. Would be lotts of fun I think.

Hey FL_bubba -- sounds like a good deal to me! As long as you have access to it, it sounds like a great arrangement!

I find hunting pigs to be more fun than deer, although I too enjoy deer hunting a lot. Do you have a lot of hogs on your property? I still hunt just northeast of Okeechobee on a fairly regular basis and hope to go the Spring.

Handgun hunting is a whole lot of fun, and more challenging than hunting with a rifle as you need to get a lot closer. You just need to load that Smith with heavy hardcast bullets and practice a lot before you use it on game -- you'll do fine. Keep us posted!

I have shot a few hogs with 44 magnums and had pretty good results, the last one i shot was at very close range maybe 20 yards tops, i was actually deer hunting and this hog came in and was feeding all around me , my shot was directly behind the shoulder with a Winchester 240 grain jacketed hollow point , i think the hog ran about 40 yards and piled up i have been wanting to shoot one with my 45 long colt uberti pistol but its not really a gun that you can shoot heavy loads out of like corbons or buffalo bore so i dont know what type of results i will get with standard factory loads

I shot a hog two weeks ago with a .44 mag using Double Tap 320 grain WFNs out of a 6.5-inch Model 629. Last month I took two with my .475 Linebaugh.......
