In a state that's already hurting for revenue, they now want to ban hunting?? Let's see, how much money do sportsman contribute to a states revenue from buying licenses and special taxes on gear?? Lot's!! Hmmm Think how much money do environmentalists contribute to conservation?? Just rehdoric is all.

Ban hunting and any state will surely feel the effects both monetary and physically. No revenue first of all. Over time you'll have elk and deer roaming in heards right through the middle of downtown Sacramento. What??

Environmentalists and animal rights activists just won't be happy until they've destroyed this country and everything the generations have worked so hard to build. They're the enemy within.

Who is John Galt?

Revenue doesn't matter to these people, because they picture the wealthy as a money tree with an endless supply of leaves. Our affluent culture has made them utterly complacent, and they think they can enact any social policy they want and then pass the bill to people who have more than they do.

My impression of California is much the same as what I thought of Afghanistan -- beautiful country, utterly ruined by the people who live there. What irritates me is that they're doing things that will bankrupt themselves, and then they'll turn to the federal government and have the rest of us foot the bill for it.

This is no surprise coming from someone who has lived his entire life in this police state. California is a perfect example from both a financial and personal liberty perspective, of what happens when Liberals are allowed to run amock un-checked. Where's the Utopia? Where's the workers paradise? Our so-called conservatives are gutless wonders and our liberals are like rich spoiled children who have had their way too long. They have a sense of entitlement that makes Paris Hilton look like Ghandi. The seem to believe they are royalty flying in private planes and dis-respecting soldiers. At least when Patton slapped one it was soldier to soldier. Babs just slaps them all in the face with her thinly veiled contempt . They have taken one of the highes revenue generating states with world class beaches, mountains, amusment parks, businesses and natural recources abounding and turned it into a welfare state. Business are fleeing in droves as are taxpayers. Restrictive enviromental laws prohibit use of land and resources making building impossible or impossibly expensive. About the only people who seem to want to come here are illegal aliens bent on taking advantage of all the free programs. What we need is massive change across the board in Sacramento. I am slightly hopefull as a recent poll showed only 17% of voters on both sides approved of any part of the current regime. We can only hope. Sorry for the rant! :rotest1 Yuk! Censored banghead

P.S. Mmangels22,
Expat is unfortunately not an idiot, he is a realist who seems to have a better understanding or your own state than you do. He is not speaking of you personaly but of the population and legislature in general and he's unfortunately all too correct in his assesment. Obviously you are new here and it might behoove you to read a few posts before throwing around words like idiot, lest you be taken for one yourself.

Mmangles, a word of advice -- a foolish general goes into battle without finding out what he's dealing with. If you really want to get into a battle of wits, bring it on, buddy. You haven't the faintest idea who I am, what I do for a living, or my education level. And by the way, the term "retarded" is offensive and small-minded...ask Rahm Emmanuel.

Before you go spewing invective and hurling labels, ask yourself this question: why is your state bleeding jobs? It's not because it's a business Utopia. It's because it keeps taxing and regulating to the point where people say "enough" and take their business elsewhere. California's economy is larger than most of the world's nations, but it's squandering it.

Second question: why is your state in such dire financial circumstances? Could it have anything to do with all of that spending? What about revenue? How is California going to generate revenue when its government keeps stifling business and sucking more revenue out of the private sector? If it's so broke, why are they trying to enact a massive health care entitlement program?

People like me ruin the country with "narrow minded" BS? Like what? Ideas like prizing individual liberty above big government? The idea that people should be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors? Have you ever read The Federalist or anything else by the founding fathers? How about this one from Thomas Jefferson: "A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government." Was Jefferson a narrow-minded "retard" that ruined the country?

Here's another one of Jefferson's finest: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."

If studying history, the Constitution, biographies, the writings of our founding fathers, having a master's degree in public administration and more than 20 years of government service makes me a narrow-minded idiot when it comes to political discussion, then I shudder to think how you might define "intelligent."

Re: HSUS Continues Assault on Hunting in California

PS mmangles: a Milken institute article published last summer stated that over the past five years California lost 80,000 manufacturing jobs while neighboring states gained 62,000 jobs in the same sector. The article attributed that loss to heavy regulation, a hostile legislature, and the highest tax rate in the United States.

Here it is: I'm not an economist, but the authors of the article are.

PPS mmangles:
California is a microcosm of what's happening on a national scale right now. The corporate tax rate in the US currently stands at 40 percent. China, meanwhile, has cut their rate to 25 percent, and their economy has been growing at an average annual rate of 9.5% for the past 10 years. In fact, 12 of the 13 nations that have higher GDP growth rates than ours have lower corporate tax rates than we do. And yet those on the left can't stop vilifying corporations and demanding that they pay more.

I agree Expat,
California has twice the population of New York. Yet has 5 times the welfare cases. A full 32% of all welfare cases in the nation belong to California. Additionaly we pay out the largest cash amount of any welfare program and we have no job search, work program or education requirements. Couple this with a fleeing tax base of both business and individuals and you simply do the math until the inevitable conclusion is before you. Add to this the most backward, arrogant socialist legislature this side of the old politburo and there you have it.

Re: HSUS Continues Assault on Hunting in California

Bunny, I hope for your sake and all hunters in California that the HSUS assault on hunting rights is shut down very quickly. Yeah, it's bad for California's coffers and setting the stage for similar scenarios in other states, but it's particularly devastating for all hunters that make California their home.

On the other hand... maybe its time to leave Bunny! Huh?

Mmangels22, you need to do your homework before you start calling anyone names on this forum. For the record, name calling is not tolerated and is dealt with harshly here on BGH. I'm assuming you got the message and will not try that stunt again.
