H.R. 6257 Another "Assault" Weapon Ban

Looks like another weapon ban was introduced into a house committee.

Take a minute to consider that the sponsor is Republican as well as all four of the cosponsors currently listed.

Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE]
Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ]
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL]
Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT]

Just goes to show you that there are nuts on both sides of the aisle. I really hate to see Republicans lose sight of conservative values in such a way, but Kirk represents parts of Chicago. That's Obama territory, and an area of the country known for its love of gun bans.

I suspect that the idea is to get this through the initial stages of the legislative process in order to posture it for action after the election. Until then, it'll probably linger in committee. The Democrats have learned that gun control is a losing issue during elections, and will probably keep this off the radar until afterward. If they keep both houses and get Obama elected, it'll move to the floor pretty quick.

I caught that on the NRA site the other day. When I read the proposal I thought it was a joke at first. What is INTERESTING is that Rep. Kirk is from IL.

These days its seems that where a politician is from means more than what party they are associated with.

That's why we can't just vote for people based on their political party affiliation. Remember how most supporters of the second amendment thought that Ronald Reagan was so supportive of gun rights, yet Reagan said he would support an assault weapons ban and a ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. I think getting caught up in political party affiliation and being such a stickler about it is so foolish. We need to be smarter than this, instead of blind.
