How to prepare an elk skull in field for european mount

I am going elk hunting this year for the first time and am not guessing I am going to shoot anything that would require a shoulder mount, but if I do get a bull I would like to at least have it european mounted.  What do I need to do in the field for this?  Just cut off the head with horns attached? Do I need to skin it?  Remove the eyes? Etc?  Thanks

All you need to do is just

All you need to do is just cut the head off.  No need to skin it unless you want to practice in case you get a nice bull and need to cape it out.  As far as the eyes and the rest of the meat on the head it will come off and or out when you either boil the skull or soak it in water to break it down or even use an anthill if you live where there are some good red ants that like meat.
