I pull 67lbs., but I think you could do it with 40 lbs...min. is 35lbs. I would just get as close as possible and make a good clean shot.

This is out of the Idaho reg. book,It is unlawful to pursue or kill big game animals with any bow having a peak draw weight of less than 40#,but i would not go after Elk with less than 50#

As long as it's legal, use what you are comfortable with and can shoot accurately. Realisticlly you don't need you arrow to pass through the elk and land in the next county. It's nice to have a pass through because you can often tell something about the hit by examining the arrow, but really all your bow needs to do is get your broadhead into a vital organ.

I was researching your question. In Colorado's Big Game Regs book, page 6 in section 4, it says minimum draw weight is 35 pounds.
