How many deer have you taken?

When I was a kid I remember reading somewhere that the average hunter would kill about 25 deer in his lifetime. I know that things have changed and some guys can do that in just a few years now.

Because of where I live and the fact that you can only get one buck tag and sometimes a doe tag also I am somewhere around 30 deer now or slightly more. Now that I have statred hunting other states I have more opportunity also.

How many for you guys?

Wow, that's tough, Last year

Wow, that's tough, Last year I had 2 buck tags, one for rifle and one for muzzleloader, during the rifle season i was mentoring someone and never got a chance at a good buck and made tag soup out of my muzzleloader tag. My family does love Venison so I did take 7 does this year to fill freezer so not complaining too much.

Hunting out west we have a

Hunting out west we have a handicap to those who hunt in the eastern states.  Here we are limited to at most 2 tags usually where some of the eastern hunts you can take 10+ a year.

As for me in my younger days I always took at least one deer a year and there were quite a few years that I was able to harvest 3 or more depending on how many states I could hunt along with some areas being able to take 2 deer on one tag.  So in the long run I have no real idea of how many that I have taken but I do have over 30 sets of deer antlers in my garage that all came from legal bucks.  The last few years I have become a horn hunter since I don't need the meat and will pack rocks in my pockets to throw at the smaller bucks.  Since that time I have only taken a couple of bucks for the freezer.

16 deer

I have been hunting for about 17 years now.  I started chasing deer with a stick and string at 14 years old.  I wasn’t able to connect until I was 16 when I shot my first deer with a bow.  Since then I have taken 16 deer, nine deer with a bow seven bucks and two does and seven with a rifle four bucks and three does.  I have plans for a trophy deer hunt in Colorado this year.  I think I am definitely on track to take 25 in my lifetime.

Question for you hunter25…. How many elk do hunters take in a lifetime?  I am at nine elk so far.

Good question and I have no

Good question and I have no idea. I'm right with you and have taken 9 also, 6 cows and 3 small bulls. 8 with a rifle and 1 cow with a muzzle loader.

I've been hunting elk for 23 years or so but they are just not my passion like deer are.

recent passion for elk

I have only recently started focusing on elk.  I have taken eight cows and one bull.  I took four cows with a rifle and four cows and one bull with a bow.  All my bow kills have come since 2004.  I took five elk in 4 years with a bow.  I’m sure there would have been one more last year but I missed archery season due to my deployment to Iraq.  This year and the next three years I will miss it because the army is moving me to Germany.

That's really hard to say

That's really hard to say because I just shoot em and don't really count, LOL!  Between whitetails, mulies, antelope, and elk, probably around 100, give or take a few.  I shot a big 8 point whitetail the first day I hunted big game back in 1963 and have just kept going from there!

Well, I actually have only

Well, I actually have only taken 4 deer in my life.

I have hutned for roughly 20 years in Vermont, with 3 deer.  That's about average, as the success rate is 1 in 7.

I have one doe out here in California.

Guess I gotta get on the ball, if I am supposed to be shooting 25 in my life... lol
