How many Arkansas hunters support the 3 point rule??

I am from new jersey and some zones have started the three point rule. I think the only thing it is good for is maybe getting guys to harvest more does. I think its tough for gun hunters if you have a nice y buck 4 point running through it is going to be tough to tell if that 3rd point is there. I guess I will have to see how it turns out in a couple years since I know probobly half the bucks harvested in jersey are spikes and and y bucks. Thats just my input by the way heres a nice 4 point I shot with muzzleloader on monday. Not in a restricted zone of course

I would have shot him, but we have that 3 point rule. A good thing I guess if your under age 16 then you get a buck of your choice and then the next has to have 3 points on one side. Thats good for the younger hunters that have just started hunting. That gives them the chance to take any buck if they dont want to shoot a doe. Anyway, I havent seen a legal buck all year. I have seen some spikes and a 4 point that I would take anyday. Where I hunt though, I havent seen what people would call a good buck in a few years. I dont know if the Game and Fish are trying to let the little bucks grow up or what. The AG&FC said that they held a vote and majority of the Aransas hunters voted for it. All the Arkansas hunters I have ran into I have asked didnt hear anything about voting for this. I think the AG&FC just took it on their selves and said we're going to do this and thats it. I dont support it at all.

I'm not up on the situation there in AR, but usually the reason for these point limits is two fold:

1.) Leaves more little guys to make big guys.

2.) Forces hunters that want meat to either shoot a big guy or a doe. Does are more common so more does get taken. Taking does is a better management tool than taking bucks.

These point restrictions are becoming more common because hunters simply aren't controlling the whitetail herds enough. PA is a good example....

If hunters don't do the job in managing herds, it leaves the door open for sharp shooters and animal rights activists favorite: deer birth control.

Can't speak for AR, but in general I support point restrictions. The first few years are hard, while the herd balances out, but after a few years hunters are taking more does and taking more big bucks, which is a better situation all around.

there talking about point restriction here in vt-also, but only in certain areas, along with reducing limits to one-buck for the year. not just one per season but all three, --bow, rifle, muzzle. Im not sure how people are going to react to it. according to what was on news there will be town meetings on subject sometime in Jan--Feb. I understand bigger deer, more deer, it just sounds terrible. But after not seeing any this year, except for a few doe. I guess it realy couldn't hurt. thats just my .02 cnts. It will be interesting to see what happens. Srry to stray away from ? of post.
congrats on your buck- Big smile

In missouri they instituted a 4 point restriction in certain counties this year. I hope that they make it statewide next year and perminant. I've been doing this myself on my property for some years. And its a much better place to hunt now than it was when we started. As a side note in counties with the antler restrictions it seems that surrounding counties had an unnatural amount of small bucks checked in. coincidence? I think not.
