How Fast do They Grow

I've heard differing opinions on how fast deer antlers grow during the spring and summer.  I've heard as much as an inch a day.  Does anyone know the true data on this?  How much bigger will a buck get than he is today, in June?

Last week on a scouting trip, I saw a lot of bucks that I would already be proud of.  Will they get much bigger?

well according to the University of Nebraska

From the website ehow:

'Antlers grow as quickly as 1/2 an inch a day, according to the University of Nebraska. Large four point antlers take 150 days to develop fully.'

I've watched some mule deer

I've watched some mule deer and elk where you would swear that they grow while you are watching them.  I know that I have looked at some deer one day and then seen them the next and couldn't believe that they were the same deer, but I knew that they were.

It all depends on what they are eating and with the wet year that we are having there should be some great antlers on the animals this year.

Obviously they don't grow

Obviously they don't grow fast enough because most of the ones I see are still pretty small when they are done.lol

It would seem that they grow at different rates though or some of them wouldn't have enough time to get as big as they are.

i would have to say here

i would have to say here where i live the antler grows pretty fast on the mule deer.  Most drop they head gear about mid to late march and a few in april.  By the end of may they are wider then there ears and have forked if not got the 3rd point all ready.  i saw to bucks this morning and they both were 4x4's already.  And if they are the same two bucks from last year they will be 6x6's or large 5x5's.  with about 30 to 33 inch spreads.  this will be the year that i get my trophy.  it only took 12 years to draw a tag for my home unit.  yeah no travling for deer this year.  hope to have the pictures by mid sept.  all this with out rain!!

I have seen some places that

I have seen some places that even say that antlers grow up to 1 inch per day.  They are supposedly one of the fastest growing things in nature.

I just think it depends on

I just think it depends on where the animals live and the food and water they eat.

I have heard deer antlers are

I have heard deer antlers are the fastest growing substance on earth. I know they usually grow over a period of about 120 days. Like many others have said on here there are things that will speed that along even more. Rain and plenty of water, good food and mineral sources, and a big one alot of people don't think of is how much stress a deer has.
