How Far Can You Comfortably shoot.

If my rifle has a 20" barrel, I'm confident out to about 21". Evil!

Where and how I hunt means that shooting from a rest is a virtual impossibility, so my figures are for off-hand shooting. Also, I don't use magnification on my rifles, and - due to failing eyesight - hunt with red dot sights.

I'm comfortable shooting 150 yds at a standing deer, and about 200 yds at a standing moose. If they are moving, those ranges are drastically reduced. The bulk of my animals have been killed at under 50 yds, and my longest was 213 yds on a standing deer. The last shot is one I wouldn't take again.

Same here most of my shots are free standing and using my legs as stands I dont know what my furthest shot ever was but it was around the 200 range also.

I wont shoot at an animal past 200 yrds no matter how excited I am, I will usually try some calls depending on the game or try and stalk my way closer through over growths and weeds. On the range I will usually try all kinds of different ranges.

distance

Well 150 yrds with my 308 is enough for me. I wouldnt shoot further than that. Then again all the deer i have shot have been within 50 yrds so i can't speak out of knowledge.

cheers

I would dare to say I am comfortable shooting offhand at a deer size target up to 100 - 125 yards, moose size target 200 yards. These ranges are good with my .308. With my 7mm mag I would go 175 yards on a deer and 250 on a moose.

I missed.

On tuesday I came over a ridge and a deer popped up about 200 running I waited till it hit the second ridge and let 3 shots roar at about 250yrds. I thought the first was a hit but the deer got back up and took off so I let 2 more go. No blood, damn did I ever think I got him, but oh well tommorrow I'm hitting the woods around 6 so hopefully tommorrow is my day. Wish me luck never did see that 6er yet just some spikes and lots of does we seen 7 on monday and 4 on tuesday. Nothing last night. I'll see if I can get out tonight but it getting dark pretty early these days. A friend downed his bull last weekend with me nice 2 year old, and damn does it taste good didnt have the camera so I didnt get any picks.
