walmart opinions

Well I suppose everyone is entitled to their view on Walmart.  People are going to call it the way they see it.  Love em, or hate em, in many ways we're better off having them around.  We pay far less in general for products today than our parents or grandparents did in their day.  That's due in part to Walmart existing.  They are a large corporation who provides jobs to many communities (despite how people feel about working for them).  For those reasons alone I'm happy to have Walmart, and yes I think they are good for America.  Not to mension that despite a lot of imported stuff they sell, Walmart actually sells more USA made domestically produced items than any other retailer out there today.  Politics and personal views aside, walmart invests in this country.

walmart

Sure, I like most people do shop at Walmart some, but I also try to shop smaller businesses.

To get those cheap prices, Walmart does do a lot of "arm twisting" with suppliers to get their prices knocked down. And that is what Expatriate was trying to explain. Is it outright extortion? I don't know - that may be a bit strong - however, manufacturers and suppliers know that it can be bad business to piss Walmart off. So yeah, it might be nice in the end for the consumer, but Walmart has done some ugly things to get there.

On a local level having a Walmart in your community can have mixed results as well. The store can draw business from a larger outlying area (I live in a rural area of Colorado) but then it can also cause grief for small "mom & pops" that are trying to compete. The smaller stores simply don't have the clout (or the huge club!) that Walmart does in getting those cheap prices on goods.

Good post cowgal!  You do a

Good post cowgal!  You do a nice job of talking the PC way when I'm the old school and just tell it like it is, LOL!!!  In the end, we are both saying exactly the same thing!  We have one 8 miles down the road from my home and I won't do business with them.  They have cost us a ton of small businesses in the three small towns nearest it, resulting in three towns with a lot of boarded up businesses that were thriving before it got here.  I'll continue to pay the extra money and support my friends who are still in business and struggling to stay afloat.  That's just the way I was raised!

expatriate---Why don't you be

expatriate---Why don't you be man enough to stick your friggin comments to me at the end of a thread where it can readily be seen as a thread progresses or are you such a cs (short for chicken dodo) that you figure you can go back and win your argument with somebody by doing what you have done now more than once.  Proper etiquette on a BB is to either PM the person you disagree with or to put your comments at the end of the thread where it can be easily seen as the thread progresses.  I stated in my post that you would figure some way to get out of your use of the word "extortion" and you did exactly that and in a very sneaky way that you figured I probably wouldn't see it IMHO!!!  I also completely disagree with your analysis of cowgirl agreeing with you when you read what she said in her post, but that's obviously my intrepretation of this situation and I could really care less what yours is after seeing how you operate.  PS:  Please don't come back and say that's the way it's done because I'm on plenty of BBs and not a one has people going back and making a post to a person in the middle of a thread like you've done to escape detection!!!

expatriate

Topgun, I've been on this forum for over 8 years, and certainly don't need someone who's been here for four months to lecture me about etiquette.  There's no evil design to deceive or hide anything here.  I specifically used the reply option to line up with your comment; this forum allows that to enable users to align responses to comments next to the comments, rather than have intervening discussions leaving readers wondering what's going on as things subject jump back and forth -- as is commonly a problem on other forums.  BGH still identifies the comment as a new post, and you can view that comment by clicking on the "new" item if you don't want to back up to find it.  If you have a problem with BGH's policies regarding post organization, I suggest you take it up with BGH, not me.

In addition, if you feel that strongly about PMs, by all means PM me.  You've always had that option, so it seems a little odd to see you complain so loudly about it when you've never exercised it with me.

I also suggest you ratchet down the emotion.  I've disagreed with your analysis of a topic because I don't feel your arguments are logically valid.  Deal with it; it's my right.  You're becoming an increasingly shrill self-licking ice cream cone and frankly, you're making more noise than sense at this point.  When it gets to the point where you're saying 7th-grade stuff like "I also completely disagree with your analysis of cowgirl (sic) agreeing with you when you read what she said in your post," it's time to let it go.

expatriate

Topgun, note that I'm replying to your post, not at the end of the thread!

For the record, I do agree with expatriate. I was trying to "politely" explain. I have no need to be PC as you described my post, but I do feel we all need to conduct ourselves in a civil manner and talk to each other on this forum, as we would in person. Just because we're behind a computer screen does not give anyone the right to be rude and resort to name calling.

2 ways to reply

Topgun, there are 2 ways to reply to posts on this forum. At the end as a general statement/response to the thread in general, or you can reply to a specific response. This new forum was intentionally designed in that manner. Most forums do not have that option. We opted for the more advanced version, since some responses make more sense when made directly to that specific post. There is nothing sneaky or wrong, in fact it's the preferred method of responding when it's directed to specifically that post.

Note, that there are 2 choices of reply buttons, at the very end of the thread or at the bottom of each post. It's up to you how you wish to reply.

You can see all responses to you and/or your posts in your account in chronological order.

Wal-Mart

I may need to re-think the whole Wal-Mart thing.  It certainly seems to be causing a lot of contention in the country.  We never seemed to have this problem when we shopped at hardware stores owned by guys named Bob with creaky wooden floors and a smell that combined lumber, rubber, and veterinary supplies.  Mind you, that's the store smell -- not Bob.  Bob smelled like coffee and pencil shavings.

Excuse me for even entering a

Excuse me for even entering a couple of these "political type" threads since it got everybody  upset!  How would I know the site is made that way when I come on here to post and not go all over the place to read how it works or find out if something has been said to me?  Procedures on every other site I'm on (a dozen or so) is such that people just continue a thread and if they want to address a certain member they just start with that username in the post and go from there.  If others don't want to read it, they just skip it and continue reading the posts following it.  IMHO that's much easier than searching all over to see if the thread has had somebody go back and do what he did.  Not knowing this is how this site operates, the only way I found his post was seeing he had been the last on the thread at the right and when I clicked on the thread his post wasn't the last one, so I had to start looking for it and wondering what was going on!  I hereby apologize to expatriate if that is an accepted practice on this site, but I obviously don't agree with that setup!!!   Also, who cares how long somebody has been on a BB or how many points/posts they have because that doesn't make them right on any particular subject.  Finally, it seems I have had some name calling back at me now and that hasn't been mentioned or addressed.  It would seem that under the circumstances the thing to have done would have been to send a PM or politely just tell me how the system worked out on the thread and left it at that, rather than going on like was done.   Obviously expatriate is just as opinionated as I am on certain subjects and we aren't going to get along on certain things, so I'll just use discretion and not post on threads where it might cause "someone" to get their panties in a wad if I disagree with them!  Have a good day folks and please accept my apology for not being PC!!!

PS to expatriate:  I did like your last post as that's the type of places I can relate to and still do business with when I can find them, rather than Walmart!!!  Peace Bro!!!

Topgun

Topgun, you brought up the subject on the open forum, so it was responded to here as well.

You are welcome to PM us if you have questions or problems that need to be resolved privately.

It's perfectly ok to have your own strong opinions, however it's important to state those opinions without personally attacking someone else's in the process. Thumbs up
