hey all, i just created an account here. so heres my question. i shot a bear monday evening (last night) at around 7:30, and couldnt find it because it got dark. i shot it, and it dropped instantly and rolled down the hill into some think brush. well i went back up today and found it at around 1:30. its warm during the day (mid 70's), but last night it accually froze down here in the valley wear i live. i shot the bear at around 4000' so it froze up there too. i got it back home today at around 3 o'clock. so i was wondering if there is a way to tell if the meat is bad. its in the freezer tonight, and i dont wanna take to a bucher shop and pay money for bad meat. it didn't smell or look bad. so what do you think? oh, and this was my first bear. it was a sow, and she weight about 275. thanks!
First off welcome to the forum and congrats on your first bear.
Since you retrieved the bear in less than a day and it got down to freezing at night AND you took care of the meat well when you got it, unless the meat smelled bad it should be just fine.
I agree, the meat should be just fine.
If anything at all is bad it will be in the hips and point of impact, but I agree with the above posts. I am sure it is fine.
Got any pics?
when i try to upload a picture, it says its an "empty file".. any ideas why?

Where are you hosting or uploading to? I host mine at hunt101.com. Not a bad place, but they want smaller file sizes. I think alot of people like photobucket as well.
Here is a pic of the one I got on Sunday on the coast.

The full story and more pics are posted here. http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,10915.0.html
To upload a photo with your post: while in the "post a reply" window or "new post" window, scroll down a bit and you will see "add an attachment." Browse on your hard drive and select the photo you wish to upload. If the file is large and you're on a slow connection, you may have to wait a bit while it uploads, could be a couple minutes.
Its recommended that you first reduce the file size before uploading, since not everyone is on high speed internet connections. If the file is too large, I believe over 1 MB it won't upload at all.
Let us know if you still have problems.
here ya go

congrats, nice bear ![]()
