Re: How 'bout some 09 Mule Deer Pics!!!

Just found this post and thought i would share my 1st archery buck with everyone shot him at 39 yards and about a 45 degree angle. he had been rutting hard and had a hole in his cheek from a buck fight. and was pretty drawn up. Can't wait till this next year.

Good job kid, now let's hear the story behind it. What did you shoot him with, how far, how did you find him, did you put on a stalk? Looks like early morning in the pics, was that the opener or had you been hunting for several days?

Re: How 'bout some 09 Mule Deer Pics!!!

Well it was shot on opening morning, I was using a 270win and I spotted the buck about 80yds away. I was waiting patiently by a trail where the deer would use when they came up from the alphalpha fields in the mourning to bed down in the foothills. The foothills being blm. I spotted this buck with a bunch of does coming up from the trail and he stood broadside about 60yds and my dad told me I could pass on it if I would like but sense it was my first buck and my adrenaline was already pumping I decided to take the shot. I put one in the chamber and steadyed for the shot, I put the cross hairs right behind the shoulder and squeezed the trigger. The buck jumped like three feet in the air and after that I knew I had hit him and made a good shot. I ended up taking both lungs out and I tracked my buck about 30yds from where I had hit him. Following huge puddles of blood, As soon as I reached my buck thats when I started to shake in happiness. It was so quick when I shot him and to finally see him dead before my eyes was a relief. now that I had taken my deer and tagged and cleaned him out we were after a buck for my dad. Its kinda funny because my dad still gets buck fever to this day and after all the bucks he has shot. Anyway to make a long storys short it wasnt my dads year to get a deer. He missed like two bucks from buck fever, and ended up eating tag soup. But atleast I can say I got my deer and it was a good one to eat because he was a young buck. Two bad I didnt draw out this year, but my dad was lucky enough to draw again. So when hunting season rolls around again I will be happy to share a story and possibly some pics if my dad ends up getting a deer. Big smile
