honestly, can a person EFFECTIVELY hunt with rifled chokes

i just purchased a a rem 870 3" turkey gun and the guys at the gun store said that i could get a rifled choke for that barrel and hunt deer with it,Ive just never seen a slug shot out of a rifled choke before, are they accurate, they were even saying i could hunt deer with buckshot as long as I use a more open choke but what would be the effective range using buckshot and would it be enough to kill a deer, I know these questions may sound dumb but im kinda new at hunting and i was just going to invest in a rifled barrel to shoot slugs but if i could hunt 2 animals with one barrel im all for that

You can hunt deer with slugs through a smooth bore barrel and the rifled choke will work. The rifled barrel will work muck better by improving both accuracy and distance. The buckshot will effectively kill deer as well but close ranges only. The choice is yours and has as much to do with budget as anything else. You can get away with hunting your present setup but if you have the $$$ you will appreciate the advantages of a fully rifled barrel.

Buckshot is deadly up to about 30 yards and pretty good out to 40. Pattern your gun with it at various distances and see how many pellets you can group in the kill area at 30, 40 and 50 yards, then you will know how far you can be effective with it. Even with a smooth bore my 870 would group slugs very good out to 80 yds but, the slug barrel thats on it now is much better and I believe its good on deer out to 100yds but I never needed to shoot that far. Most shots are under 50 yds.

Some states don't allow buck shot for deer hunting

works fine for me

I have an abused Mossburg 500 Some bird and deer seasons overlap.
I can keep 4 shots on a 6inch paper plate at 85 yards(length of make shift gun lane) I use 2 3/4 when I go up to any 3inch slugs paterns well they get like a shotgun. Try em that 870 might suprise you. Let us know
