My Daughter and Son-in-law are visiting for the holidays from Knoxville. My two Sons-in-law and I went hunting yesterday morning, a nice cold December morning here in Tn. They had hunted there before and I had not. We made our way to our stands in an area with both woods and agriculture. We were all seated and ready by about one hour prior to SR.
It was nice and still and I was still settling in when a shot rang out about 55 mins later. At about 5 mins before official SR, my SIL Brandon had a very nice Tennessee buck come by. The woods were thick enough that he had to wait until he came within about 55 yards and stepped out from behind a few mature trees before he could even shoot.
He was using my Ruger 77 in .358 Win, after I mentioned to him to leave his rifle (also a Ruger 77) at home to save a bit of room in their packed car. His shot dropped him in his tracks. The buck has 11 points, a really pretty rack and is his biggest deer to date. He even let me pose with him...lol.
I made a deal with him and Mike, my other SIL there hunting with us; I'd gut the deer, but they had to do all the dragging (not as dumb as I look!). We'll be eating a good bit of homemade jerky along with a good bit of stew, chile and spaghetti sauce for a while now.
