Holiday Buck

My Daughter and Son-in-law are visiting for the holidays from Knoxville. My two Sons-in-law and I went hunting yesterday morning, a nice cold December morning here in Tn. They had hunted there before and I had not. We made our way to our stands in an area with both woods and agriculture. We were all seated and ready by about one hour prior to SR.

It was nice and still and I was still settling in when a shot rang out about 55 mins later. At about 5 mins before official SR, my SIL Brandon had a very nice Tennessee buck come by. The woods were thick enough that he had to wait until he came within about 55 yards and stepped out from behind a few mature trees before he could even shoot.

He was using my Ruger 77 in .358 Win, after I mentioned to him to leave his rifle (also a Ruger 77) at home to save a bit of room in their packed car. His shot dropped him in his tracks. The buck has 11 points, a really pretty rack and is his biggest deer to date. He even let me pose with him...lol.

I made a deal with him and Mike, my other SIL there hunting with us; I'd gut the deer, but they had to do all the dragging (not as dumb as I look!). We'll be eating a good bit of homemade jerky along with a good bit of stew, chile and spaghetti sauce for a while now. Yes

More great bucks!! My seasons

More great bucks!! My seasons are long over but it's great to see some of you guys still get to be out there.

I tried to buy a old Ruger .358 awhile back at my local Cabela's after I spotted it on the internet, but it was underpriced and gone by the time my call came in.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments. We always look forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, so the three of us can hunt together. It has become a fine family tradition for us. It's a fact that both my fine Sons-in-law killed their first deer hunting with me. I have been very lucky to share that with them, indeed. Thumbs up

It was taken in Montgomery County, very near the Robertson County line. Interesting to note, perhaps, that in that very same area (within a half mile tops) two very large bucks were harvested in '09 and '10. The '09 buck was 160"+ and harvested by my son-in-law's cousin. The '10 buck was 170"+ and was harvested by a friend of mine and my SIL.  I'll post a picture of the '10 buck here.

small world

You're in Sullivan in TN? I'm in Hawkins (small world huh?)- haven't seen one good size deer anywhere near me though there's plenty of 4 point bucks.

Nice pics guys! Big smile
