Glad you will be staying on

Glad you will be staying on the mountain for a bit...man thats a long drive everyday...and from most places up there you can just walk away from camp and you should find elk.

Goose, I'll shoot you an e-mail before we go out and let you know around where we'll be camping.  Let me know if you're close and we'll make it a point to stop over some evening and introduce ourselves and maybe swap a few stories if you and your Father are up for it.  Just let me know.

Don't count those lower areas

Don't count those lower areas out for elk either. The last time I made it down there we actually saw more elk down there than deer. They were getting run around pretty bad though.

serviceberry

Yeah, Hawkeye, the last time we hunted there our group took a 5x5, a 6x6 and a small mulie out of 4 guys.  I've just been reading that it's hit or miss which is why I was thinking of trying Routt National instead.  From the sounds of it Routt is better for elk but I'll be moving to an area I haven't hunted before so it'll be a trade off I guess.

Question ??

Ok, so i have a wierd question and wanted opinions. Knowing where we are hunting (Im going with bearklr) and the terrain we'll be covering, would it be better to use a gun mounted bi-pod, stoney point shooting sticks (saving weight off the gun) or the walking stick mono-pod? (I feel most comfortable with the Harris bi-pod)

I'd save the weight and use

I'd save the weight and use the mono-pod walking stick. That's what I usually do. Try to get as many uses out of a piece of equipment, no matter the equipment in question.

I have a set of magnum

I have a set of magnum shooting sticks that I can double as a walking stick if need be.....so that is what I use, but more often than not I use the surrounds for my rests.

I prefer shooting sticks.

I prefer shooting sticks. They are more versatile than a bipod and don't change the way your rifle handles. But if you're most comfortable off the bipod, I'd go with that.
