I hunt in NW Florida and have the same problem. I can ride for 2 hours and see 5-6 deer, but I will count 30 hogs. Can put any corn out because the hogs eat it in less than a day.

We have the same problem in East Texas most of the places where there are deer you will find the hogs. We kill as many as we can freeze some and give the rest to needy families. They are not bad eating. However they are hard to cope with you can figure a sow will produce 4 to 8 piglets every 6 months if the food is stable and Doe will only produce 1.5 fawns in a year. You can see by this that the hogs have the upper hand. They can be fun to hunt and they are very smart. Get some traps invite some friends out for a hog hunting party it will help control population. Tip from a hunter in East Texas.

I have some question about hog hunting. Is there anyone out there hunting hogs at night? I have been checking into Feeder Mounted lights that are battery and solar power. All seem to have the same characteristics they come on at dusk and go off at dawn. Has anyone toyed with the idea of making them motion activated or would this spook the hogs every time they came on. The next part of this how do the Deer handle these lights being on the feeders. Is any one out there building there own lighting system rather than purchase them. If so, would you be willing to share idea?

We hunt in East Texas and we are not seeing hogs during day but know they are hitting feeders late in the day after sunset you can hear them but as soon as you put a flashlight on them, they disappear. There are also numerous trails leading to and from the feeder usually in two or more directions. Any advise would be welcomed.

hey hamilton

east texas hunter here. i would say to use a spotlight, i would also say your hog problem is worse than you think. a sow can have a litter of up to 20+ every 3 weeks 3 months and 3 days!

Thanks for the tip but I was not aware that they could reproduce that quickly and could produce that many offspring in one litter, I read somewhere that it was every 6 months and only 4 to mabe 8 piglets. You say use a spotlight will this frezze them in there tracks long enough to get a shot off, because a flashliht seems to scare them off. I would have assumed a spot light would be worse. Thanks for the advise.

the spotlight might not freeze them, but it will give u a chance.

hogs are very smart, i have removed them temporarilly from our place in alto, texas by chasing them with my truck. they got the hint and decided to move on.

Would a colored lens help? Also don't shine the light directly on them. Shine it above them so that you can see them in the halo of the beam.

Not 100% sure on this one but I have seen and read in a few places that GREEN light....Such as these new walk in lights you see springing up wont spook them at all...Get a scope with a lighted retical and give one of those greenies a try....Im comming to Texas soon (round January or so) Hit me on PM and we will disscuss giving this night hunting a shot...Ill bring a few toys to try out as well...Least we will be able to HOPEFULLY get rid of 6 or 8 for ya Yes Not gonna be Deer hunting in Texas this year so ya wont have to worry about me poppin a deer there....(seen dogs biggern texas deer anyway) LOL....I was actually researching ranches down there with Hog problems that would allow me to come hunt...I love the meat so I wouldnt charge ya a dime for the service Thumbs up
