Hog hunting in California

I looking for some areas to hunt hogs, most of the good areas are private and I'd be willing to pay a tresspass fee, does anyone know of any good places. I'm planning on some trips to fort hunter leggit and camp roberts, but would really like to hunt some good private land. I really dont want to pay for a guide, but if the price is right I will. Thanks for any help

looks like we're in the same boat, I want to find some public land to hunt. guided hunts dont seem too interesting to me. I would rather go old fashioned and find them. what part of california are you in?

BB - I live in central California near Fresno. I think I'll be making some trips up to camp roberts and fort hunter legitt. Theres a management hunt at the tejon ranch I think it cost 450 and its a DIY hunt.

pig hunts

You should put an ad in the farm and garden section of craigslist to barter work for the right to go pig hunting.

I have some buddies that do the Tejon hunt every couple of months. I haven't done it, but there's a population starting to build in my area, so I may be looking for them after the new year.... Yes

I am also looking for good public land to hunt hogs on. I am in SoCal and am limited to only sat-sun for hunting due to my work schedule. Dont want to have to travel too far north to hunt. Where to look in Southern and Central Ca? Not too interested in a guided hunt unless the price is decent.

Re: Hog hunting in California

Hi all!

I'm planning on going up to central cali in a week and a half to try and find some sounders to take some shots at. I found some good areas (read: watering holes) I'm going to scout out when I go up next week and hopefully i'll be able to get a shot off with a slugger in my 12 gauge within 50yds. Couple of questions:

1) How do you go about finding out who owns which parcel of land and how do you go about contacting them? Should I just show up and knock on someone's door?
2) Anyone have any productive locations they'd like to share? I don't want to do the military base thing, and everyone says that public lands are a waste of time.
3) If I'm planning on being in a tree near a pond, should i worry about scent control?
4) Anyone have any recommendations for ammo? I need a lead free slug that's decently accurate out to 50yds max in a 28" smooth bore 12 gauge. Will a rifled slug ruin my barrel?

Cheers!
