HIP Numbers

Here is a little reminder for those of you that are headed out west here to Colorado, and Utah for the hunting seasons and are planning on taking a grouse or two while hunting. You are required to have a HIP number written on your license before you begin your hunt. If you are planning on it then just do a search for the state where you are going to be hunting and HIP number in the search. It only takes a couple of minutes and may save you a few dollars if you get checked with a bird in your position and no HIP number.

Also Colorado small game season starts Saturday September 1.

Grouse

I was out scouting for my upcommng mzldr hunt and grabbed a shotgun just in case.  That was a good decision as I saw several groups of dusky grouse (formally blue grouse), and brought home 4 of them.   I could have easily had more if I really wanted, but I was still trying to be quiet and scout for elk, so I didn't want to disturb my hunting grounds too much. Still, 4 is enough for 2 good meals.
