It's too bad it's over for you... maybe some small game hunting?
I'd love to go into a place like that. But I went up just under 10,000' one time and there is not a lot of air up there! I didn't have to walk around to much and I'd have to either sit a bit or pass out. Sure was pretty though!

It is pretty up there. I could never leave it, but I can still do it with fly fishing small creeks for brookies. The best part compared to elk hunting is it's pretty easy to haul out a few brookies. ![]()
Still Hunter, you just need to find a couple of high school aged boys that are interested in hunting that you can mentor. Then while you are teaching them how to hunt you can teach them how to pack out what you shoot. The only problem with that is that I have tried it and for some reason they are never around when you really need them.
One thing that is nice about those brookies is that after you catch one and you don't want to keep it you can just turn it loose. It's kind of hard to do that to a elk or deer that you have just shot. Good luck on the fishing
I can also build a fire, and eat them on the spot. Almost as good as elk meat. ![]()
I got weak. I just put in for a deer tag.
I have 2 days to talk myself out of getting an elk tag.
You could always do both. Just don't plan on shooting an elk unless it's a monster. Realize just having a tag so you can go and hunt and just have the experience of it makes it all worth it. Wether you get something or not. You could divide up your days so you can hunt both and you never know you may bag a deer the first or second day and still want to do some hunting. Shooting something the first day when you have a week off is kinda of a bumber even though you got an animal. It's all about being out doors in amazing country chasing elusive tail. ![]()
I thought about it too long. I finally decided to get the elk tag on the last day about 9pm. The DOW web site was having problems, and my application never went through. I tried to talk them the next day, but they weren't going for it.
Oh well. Trying to get a mature buck in early season with a sidelock, iron sights, and a round ball will be enough of a challenge. I can always get an OTC elk tag if I feel like it.
many people and myself had problems with the big game app process and everyone that talked to cpw the day after the deadline got told the same thing,to bad but there is nothing we can do.I dont even know which of my 1 of 4 tries went through becaused i changed a few hunt codes in the process and i cant find out until i get the results back.Colorado Parks and Wildlife is quickly becoming a disaster and a template for agencies of what not to do.Anyway i applied for a early season rifle hunt for area 43 within the Maroon Bells/Snowmass wilderness and am eagerly waiting for results.I applied last year with 5 points and didnt draw and i am not excited about my chances this year either.
