Here’s what to do with your turkey spurs!

I have run across an idea that I am going to steal and use as my own.  The details are in this linked article with fantastic photographs:

article linked here on how to display your turkey spurs

What you do is cut the turkey leg bone close to each spur and then make a hatband, necklace, or bracelet very similar in appearance to the same I have seen decorated with bear claws or even wolf teeth.  Check it out.

Good how to article and I

Good how to article and I like the way it looks quite a bit. I considered cutting a couple of claws off of my lion and badger rugs for just his purpose but could not get myself to actually do it. If I ever manage to get out and go turkey hunting and kill one I think I'll give this idea a try.

I agree that is a good how to

I agree that is a good how to article.  I am not big on necklaces, but my dad did show me this trick.  Instead of making a necklace, he cleans up the spurs like in the article, and strings them on some leather.  He also glues the beard to part of a shotgun shell and hangs the whole thing from the tail fan mount.  I think it is a nice addition and a good use of the spurs.  In fact, I am doing a similar thing with my turkey from this year.  Here is a picture of my turkey spurs from last year.

That’s pretty cool WishIWasHunting.

That’s pretty cool WishIWasHunting.  Thanks for sharing the idea with us.  I am not much of a necklaces wearer myself!  I like the idea of adding the shotgun shell to the display too.

I just finished my tailfan

I just finished my tailfan mount from this year.  I used this idea again.  Instead of using part of the shotgun shell, this time, I used the entire thing, and I like the way it turned out.
