Help a soldier out -- AGAIN?

I am deployed. I have a CO unit 67 cow elk permit and have not been able to recruit a partner. My brother may be able to make a 4th season hunt so I am considering ditching my unit 67 cow tag and both buying unit 18, 54 or 23, 24 tags.

I know 4th season can be extremely weather dependent. Is anyone willing to share any info on 18 or 54. I hunted 23/24 last season and harvested a calf second season. I have looked at the stats and 18 is the lowest for harvest % and know it borders the west side of the Park--so i am very curious.

We hunt hard, DIY and are in good shape. I cannot scout b/c of sitting in this wonderful craphole called Baghdad. I will get home ~8 days prior to this hunt God willing. Any one wanting to share any info on unit 18 please pm me. VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

BTW - This hunt could mean alot to me...I was hunting last year in KY with my other older brother and after a week of hunting he unexpectedly passed away in my arms in the field after shooting a nice buck on Nov 15th. My remaining brother and I realize life is tender and can be gone in a minute and want to get back to hunting more with each other. Not trying to paint a sob story here...just the true feelings I have. Thanks again.

J-

If I had any info what so ever I would give it to you. If you havent heard, the West got a little snow already. It's suppose to do this off and on for the next week. I hunt at 6500ft and there is 6inches on the ground as of today. So that might help you decide on what to do.

Sorry to hear about your brother. Life is short and you should make the best of it... but sometimes it takes something that tragic for one to realize it.

Good Luck and God Speed!

Thanks for what you do. Thumbs up

Jason,
I would not give up the unit 67 tag for a unit 18 tag, ever. Just off the top of my head, I rank unit 67 as the 9th best unit during second season, and 18 as the 98th out of 105 that I follow. That leaves 3 other options. Keep the tag and hunt alone, but you really don't seem to want to do that. So you can hunt unit 54 blind which is a great unit, but you're going in blind. Or you can hunt 23,24 and not be blind. I think your deployment situation has put you in a real bind this year, so your best chance for success with a partner would be 23/24 if you ask me. I'm no great fan of those units either, but that's probably your best bet.
