I am in north idaho but they can be nuisances, they usaully hang on the public land private land boundary around here.
Hey theretro-bow, any luck on the western washington birds? Last weekend put the schittzz on my gas budget, and I need hope that I can find one on public land in western washington. I am not looking for an area handout, just hope!
Anyone shot a Western WA bird yet?
lol... yea gas sux. No shots.. yet... i've seen 2 toms on 2 diff occasions both at 70+ yards never got close enough....So far i know where they roost, but theydon't even gobble at night..I have Herd 1 gobble.... So i am laying back and waiting for some good weather.. to help get them interested in my hen...
As far as Area goes if you cant get permission. I suggest Capitol Forest. I don't care what people say i have seen birds in there every year I go in there.. I find sign anywhere from the peak to The Porter and towards little rock. You just have to Take a good full day and cover a lot of ground until you find sign.. then start hunting.
With the longer season, I may have to give it a try locally. I have come across some droppings in Lewis county on timberland just last year. Havent seen any in the capitol forest yet... Maybe I will give it a walk.....thanks for the hope!
Your welcome, there is hope, but it can get frustrating over here, depending on the situation. You can go for hours, not see sign 1 and then let your guard down and spook a bird, or you can see more sign than you have time to hunt and not see a bird, and every variation you can imagine. I'll be out there all weekend this weekend. I believe i am going up to the northeast the weekend of the 19th.
Hey, good luck. I won't be hitting the birds much this weekend, taking the kids trolling for their first fish of the year. Next weekend, to the Eastside to see about filling my second tag. My son is not very happy about the bird my daughter and I shot on the opener..... I have one big ticket to fill!
errr.... scratch that... just found out.. headed out tomorrow for east side to fill my second tag...but i think I'll be guiding my cousin or my cousin in law most of the weekend. Witch is just as fun for me.. i love calling them in!
awesome! I took my 3 year old brother out last weekend and helped him catch his first trout.. It was really cool he did a good job.... Good luck next weekend on filling that second tag with your son.
