help with boot information

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some information on a pair of 12" high boots I found in a thrift store. The upper boot appears to be a heavy canvas material. They have seven eyelets for lacing up. There is a small tag on the inside that reads: 'Gore-tex fabric'. There is no brand name that I can find unless it is 'Gore-Tex'. They have a water proof rubber (I think) moccasin style sole. There is a Thinsulate thermal insulation removable bootie inside. Each boot has two velcro flaps on each side on the top. They are in excellent condition and would make a very nice all weather boot but I was curious about what purpose they were actually made for. If anyone would like a picture I can email one. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like a nice pair of boots. I suspect they might be an all-weather hiking boot. The high lace up is usually to support the ankle and in theory supposed to prevent twisting the ankle more than a standard low rise boot would.

Gore-tex is a "breathable" cloth, specially made to allow permeation of water vapor (sweat) away from the foot (but not in). This is nice because water and sweat can get out of the boot leaving your feet drier (and therefore warmer).

Thinsulate is a synthetic fiber that has a fine mesh and is supposed to be good at trapping air, thus insulating what it is wrapped around.

Sounds like an army style boot, an old style, since the boot is constructed out of heavy canvas.

I'm going to take a stab at the purpose and say, "Those boots are made for walking."
