Hawaii to ban all pocket knives

Senate Bill 126 was pushed by senataor Les Ihara (majority policy leader)

http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/session2010/bills/SB126_.HTM

The worst part about this bill is that Les Ihara stated that he disagreed with the bill, but signed it at the request of his constituents who wanted to get the bill on the floor. What a piss poor excuse. So this is how fancy politicians make decisions that govern our lives banghead

Here's a link with a response from the senator to a knife rights organization who questioned his decision. http://www.kniferights.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73&...

CVC,
Don't you know the Boy Scouts are a right wing militant racist, homophobic organization bent on world domination training para military commandos? I'll just bet Expatriate was one of those evil Eagle Scouts. Darn facists. Take away their knives.

This is proof positive that it's not about guns...it's about control. It's about distrust of the individual, and the belief that everyone else in the world but them can't be trusted and must be controlled by the state.

So does anyone know if the bill ever became law or was ever even voted on? Did a quick google search and couldn't come up with much except talk on other forums.

I'm hoping common sense prevailed.

Expat, its about delusional progressives. They must control the masses of incompetent citizens - it's for our own good you know! Brick Wall,)

I don't think it passed, but I'm not sure. Don't see how it would make sense. Oregon had passed a similar law statewide, but that only lasted a couple months before it was repealled. Crazy when you thing about it, being that the state of Oregon is home to many of the well known pocket knife makers and tactical knife manufacturers.

It is all about control rather than public safety or common sense. Certain things end up being displayed in a bad light on TV or in the news and then it creates moral panic. That's what happened to fully automatic firearms in the early 1930's and same thing happened to switch blade knives in the late 1950's. Banning switchblade knives was one of the most rediculous and worthless pieces of legislation ever devised.

I've asked about a dozen cops over the years why they or members of the military can legally own automatic knives or switchblades, but civilian citizens cannot. Only two attempted to justify it, but quickly caved in when presented with the facts, the rest of them were just as confused about it as I was and didn't try to justify the law, they only said they have to enforce it. I had posed the question to these different officers at various times over the last 15 years. No I don't have run-ins with cops. I often come across members of law enforcement at a rifle club that I frequent.

One of my tactical defensive knives is a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder knife with a blade that can easily be deployed with the same speed as an automatic knife or switchblade, yet the Combat Folder meets the legal requirments for me to own. My Buck 110 can have it's blade deployed just as fast from a folded position when griped from the blade spine and using inertia or centrifugal force from the heavy handle, the open blade ends up in the hand, and could be used as a throwing knife just as well. As far as ordinary folding (pocket) knives go, a great many sportsman carry and use them for field dressing game and cleaning fish. The question people need to ask themselves when voting is - What is a dangerous weapon? In my opinion and experience, just about anything can be when put in the right or wrong hands. So how do you increase public safety and reduce violent crime? Level the playing field. Allow law abiding citizens to own the same weaponry that criminals will use, and give the armed citizen the same advantage. Crime will decrease when the cost of being a criminal increases!!

What would you wager the term "assault knives" will be soon in vogue with the left.

Laugh Laugh It would only include those menacing looking folding knives with handles made of glass filled nylon, G-10, or skeletonized aluminum, anything with a pocket clip, and those blades that are coated black with partial serrations regardless of length. Oh and thumb studs will be out of the question.
Evil!

Gee, lets forget for a minute that more damage can be caused to a human body with a baseball bat or framing hammer or even a ball point pen for that matter, when placed in the wrong hands confused?
