Having Trouble

Hey all,

I've been keeping a deer cam record of all the deer movement by my stand. and none of it is during legal hunting times.

I hunt by some apple trees so deer are always there.....but not during legal hunting times...

Does anyone have any trick to lure them back during the early light when i can actually hunt?

I got to my stand around 5am.....i spook the deer when i get there on the way in, but they often come back and keep eating after I'm settled. yesterday i sat 15yds away from a nice 10pt buck for almost an hour, listening to him eat apples off the ground. Then at about 6:20 he just walked off, walking within spitting distance of me.

sunrise is 7:28am...so i can hunt at 6:58.

should i grunt like a buck?...bleat like a doe? rattle (tried that a lil yesterday after he left, but he didn't come back)?

I have a high buck to doe ratio in my area and there are a few nicer ones.....I'd like tog et at least one!

any ideas or suggestions are welcomed.....I'm kinda stumped.

if they are pressured to feed only during the hours of darkness then you need to get away from the food source and hunt the trails leading to and from the bedding area. I'd recommend hunting more in the evening. they are going to get up and hit the trails to water and then to the food. I have much more success hitting them on the movement corridors and also during the midday hours when they come back out of the bedding areas for the midday snack.

I have a similar problem - wait for the rut to kick in and then they won't be quite as shy. Especially with fewer does around the bucks will have to cover more ground to find a mate. Once this starts (which should be pretty soon) I would think the tactics you've been using: buck grunts, rattling...then as the actual breeding period nears (probably mid-Nov this year) switch to doe estrous bleats, scents etc.

For now hang tough and don't spook them!

Trail

I would move up the trail and either catch them leaving or going to the apples. Try finding a happy medium between bedding and feed and you should catch them sometime going or coming during shooting time.

Good Luck

thanks for the replies guys.

I don't have many options for moving my stand. I only own the 2 acres, I have permission to retrieve on the neighbors property (4 acres and 2 acres on both sides), but no hunting permission on their property.

Just trying to make due with what i have

this is the guy i want to get:

I'm just hoping he doesn't run away chasing does during the rut

I hear ya...I wish the deer would read the same magazines that I do so they'd know what they're supposed to do. Brick Wall,)
