Sorry I haven't been there since spring 88, we hunted from a boat and cruised the bays on the east side [the protected side] really didn't get to far from the ferry terminal at Hollis.We were on a long weekend and saw 11 bears in 2 1/2 days.

I would be glad to help i hunted bear there in 2009 need to know what part you plan to stay in  but really the whole island is good this is a great do it yourself hunt but dont go to early best time would be end of may or first part of june.we went early may for 6 days saw 7 bear i killed a nice boar on the last day lots of clearcuts you can drive and walk and glass for weeks if i could afford the airline tickets i would do this hunt every year but next spring will be the last of the over the counter tags it will going to a draw system so go while you can. o.k now for what i think was one of the best places was a place called salt chuck mine it is a hugh bay flat when the tide goes out there is lots of tasty bear morisles laying everywhere if you hunted just here every day you would do well. i could go on and on as you can tell this place left an impression i will never forget hope to go again someday..let me know if i can help some more..charlie

I can't offer any advice from first hand experience but a friend hunted there glassing from a boat and stalking spring bear.  He got an amazing bear.  So I think you will have a great hunt.  Be sure to tell us all about it and share pics when you get back.
