had a blast

i just had to share my hunt that i had tonight.first of all ive been working my butt of for a bear this year, i started about 5 months ago and located some big ones. but back to tonight, i get to the area ive been hunting hard and set up on the top of the hill where the bears have been coming thru. i sit for about 35 min to let every thing quiet down from my trip up there, and then i start to move. i hit a good trail and follow it to where the hill side opens up ive had the wind in my face the whole time and i dont think ive ever been so quiet. so i have to push thru some brush to get in to the clearing, before i do i get a good look around and about 30 yards to my left are 4 elk and they havent seen or heard me, the bull was a huge 8x8. i watch them for a min then i push thru the brush, as soon as i do about 70 yards down the hill i see a bear start running. he's heading towards a draw down hill so i turn and run up the hill to get around for a shot. well here i am running as fast as i can strait up this hill and i realize im running right at that bull elk, two actually and a cow. but i wasnt stopping you shoulda seen those elk scatter. to keep this from getting to long i did get over the top on the bear and i got back down in the other draw but i never got a shot. in trying to sneak back around i got right up on a doe before she realized i was there. it was a great time hunting, some times its not just the kill. i was by myself the mountain was beautiful and ill be back up there tomorrow

Graet story. I agree the best part of the hunt is just being out there.

So

Yesterday, after dinner, I had the urge to run (drive) up the road (bottom of the blues) in my tank top, bball shorts and white shoes--wasnt really going to do much but if I just happen to see a blackbear I'll take em down.

Anyhow, I parked the truck, open door and there lay some big ol' cat scat. Anyhow, a little weary I head up the side of the hill w/ my call and buddy 300 win mag, I sit and call, a doe and its little one pop out on the other side of this draw, I keep calling, hearing something walking around in the thicket, I should say some things cause there were a few different creatures walking around in the thicket. I keep calling, but nothing, so sun starts to go down, I walk down and I hear some thing and see something moving towards me (at this point still calling) I sit down, and the thing must have busted me, it turn around ran to the other side and out pops this lil' guy (bear) too small, but I followed him up the draw, he disappeared into the thicket and I turn back. So I hear a coyote barking, so I use my "calls em all" and bark/howl back, its getting closer as i get close to my truck. So I'm taking my ammo out, take off fanny pack and happen to look up. A Bear runs across this opening!!! A decent shooter bear, must have been following my bad coyote calling ;-) and I had no ammo, I quickly reloaded, but too late, I tried to call, listen but NOTHING! He's gone. But it was fun, wish I had my camcorder.
