Guns are brought to Obama protest

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2009/aug/18/guns-are-brought-obama-protest/

The protesters broke no laws and were just exercising their Constitutional rights to free speech and to bear arms. The two go hand in hand like peanut butter and chocolate.

Some might say that it will incite the anti-gun folks and you know what it probably will, but so what. I, for one, am tired of having to be on the defensive. I think it is time for more "in your face" rebuttal for the liberal agenda.

It's just more proof that when guns are owned and carried for lawful purposes, crimes are not committed.

Wonder what Obama tjought about that?

It used to that Winchester and later USRAC would present a lever action rifle to every incoming president. Wonder if that happened this time and if Obama accepted?

I understand what they're doing, but as conservative as I am I think that's taking it a wee bit too far. The last election demonstrated the lack of intellectual depth in this country when it comes to politics. I don't think rank and file Americans are smart enough to get it. From Ghandi to King, the key to successful protests is to be heard without being threatening. The second you foster a perception of violence, you marginalize yourself and make harsh clampdowns start to look justified.

Ex, you make very valid points that are hard to dispute. However, the left has used in your face type of politics effectively and the right has taken the high road.

I am sure it can bring a backlash, but at what point to we stop worrying about the backlash and flex our muscle so to speak?

Expatriate hit it right on. In your face just doesn't work. Tell me when liberal in your face tactics has changed you mind on anything?

I agree with Expatriate. Thumbs up

We do not need to flaunt our firearms or inflame the lefties even more. They are already coming after our guns, we don't need to give them more ammo. lol

There's a difference between in your face and in your face with a gun. IMO the former is long overdue, because the lefties have exploited the right's penchant for politeness and got away with far more than they should have. But the second...it just doesn't work. Think of the pictures of Bull Connor using fire hoses and german shepherds on protesters in Birmingham. How would those pictures have been received if the protestors had been carrying AR-15s?

I must respectfully disagree. We have, to quote the phrase, "taken the high road" too many times and it has been mistaken for weakness. So called in your face tactics are not meant to win hearts and minds or to convert lost souls. They are meant to prove points and make statements. They are a show of strength and unity. This is precisely what we need to do. We have sat on our laurels far too long. No war can be won without taking the offensive and if that means offending a few moral cowards who would compromise our rights then so be it. I'm sure you all remember the co-called "million man march" that was so played up in the press? How about a million gun march down Pennsylvania ave? We need to show we are no longer willing to compromise when it comes to the constitution and bill of rights.

A million gun march down Pennsylvania Ave? That would quickly be viewed as an armed insurrection.
Personally and quite frankly if there were ever to be 1 million guns marching on the Capitol of MY country, I would have no problem with a squadron of A-10 Warthogs making a dozen or so strafing runs to break it up.

This goes with the 1st amendment analogy that you have a right to free speech but you can't just go into a crowded theater and yell "FIRE!!!"

You may have the Constitutional "Right" to carry a Firearm but there is a time and place for that and having one at a protest where the President is in attendance is NOT one of those places or times.

Sorry Bunny, gotta side with Ex & Jtapia on this one. Guns and protests do not go together.
