Stopped by a little gun shop in the next town from where I live on my way home yesterday. Sitting on the used rack was a Savage Modle 99 in 300 Savage. Checked it out and it was a Utica gun (made in the Savage Arms factory in Utica NY, original factory before moving to MA in the mid 1900's). Was in pretty good shape with an after market scope assembly that would swing off to the side to allow use of the iron sights (very cool) with an old 3 power weaver in it. Also had a small (1/2 inch D) brass compass intetted into the top of the butt stock (still pointing North).
Price tag said $375, (a good deal on this gun) and I asked if they could do better they took another $50 off. Gun went home with me.
Thing is I already have a 99 in 300 Savage (also a Utica gun) take down that i bought a few years ago. I guess i am collecting them? Always have been a fan over other lever guns, one because they do not have a tubular mag and no hammer.
