Aahh crap, just saw that last picture and realized this isn't the same buck that you posted in the "biggest mulie forum"
exbiologist, nope it’s not the same buck. Not even my buck. Once the guessing is over I will tell you guys the disappointing story behind this monster muley.
Hey Conrad, what is the story and the score?
Ok guys here is the score and story for this Monster Muley. At the end of 2000 I was new to Fort Carson, CO, I had just been reassigned from Korea. As with any new place I find myself I started looking into the hunting there. My boss just happened to be an avid hunter, but not an ethical one. He showed me the ropes and I read all the rules for hunting on post. At the time I thought he was legit. We never hunted together because I’m a bow hunter 99% of the time and he used his guns. Archery season 2001 came and went with no luck to me I was eating tag soup. However, the hunt wasn’t a total loss. I got some great time in on the ground and saw LOTS of huge muleys in the low velocity weapon areas on post. (The areas around the houses). I had a couple bucks that I planned on watching over the next year and trying for them in 2002. Yes, that’s where this buck comes in. I saw him next to the airfield on post and hopped he would stay in the low velocity area through the rifle season (Ft Carson rifle deer season is OCT 1 to JAN 31). As luck would have it for my boss he came in to work after thanks giving and showed me pictures of this buck. Of course I was disappointed because I recognized it as one of “MY” bucks but at the same time I was happy that someone I knew had taken the buck. Over the next couple months I asked questions about the buck, how he got him? How far was the shot? Where was he? Come to find out he shot the buck in a low velocity area with a 22 LR during thanksgiving weekend (during the RUT) and didn’t have a tag. So what do you do when your boss, your hunting friend, poaches a monster like this? You call operation game thief and turn his ass in, or at least that’s what I did. They found him guilty of killing two muley bucks over 190 inches and a nice whitetail buck too. They hit him with as much as they could in fines $10,000+ because of the Samson Law and took his 22. I got the chance to measure the buck for him before I found out it was poached and the Game Warden let me come down to the office and take the pictures with the buck. The room they kept the rack in was full of confiscated mounts of just about every big game animal in CO. So what’s the score you ask? I tapped him at 197 3/8
Thanks for sharing. It's a shame what some people will do when they see a buck like that. Ruined a perfectly good chance for someone to get a buck of a lifetime. Now his buck of a lifetime isn't so great anymore.
nice buck for sure
saw the post and looked at the pic and made my guess, look thouh the post and found that my guess would be close.
very nice buck
I was guessing 194". Heck of a buck. It's a shame he was taken illegally. You did the right thing. A poacher is a poacher whether he is a friend or not. Thanks for sharing.
If I can find the pics, I'll post some pics of a huge whitetail buck taken by a poacher in this area.
