Nailed 6 grouse in Eastern Washington during the opener last weekend. Had so much fun, my 10yr old and I are going back this weekend. Rather steep area, checkout the pic where we use my "grouse rope" to get back up the bank after retrieveing a bird.

Birds were spread out, not in large groups. Once the weather cools, you can expect to see larger groups of birds as they gather in areas out of the wind with a bit of sun on the hills. I cannot wait for the freeze!

Going back Saturday 3am from Olympia. Wind, chance of rain and all. Who cares. Can't shoot em' in my living room. Tent campin', wind and rain, here we come! Just taking my son this time, snake chaps and a bunch of trails this time, sneak up on the grouse....a bit of cover wind may help.... Pic's later.

Five more in the freezer. Saturday was windy and a bit difficult, Sunday was very nice, calm and clear, birds were out feeding early from being couped up all day Saturday with the wind. Go get em!

Yes, we had a "blast" together. He is looking forward to taking his hunter ed class maybe in two years. In the mean time, he loves retrieving those birds for me, hiking the closed roads and trails together, finding rattlesnake shed skin, antler sheds, anything "cool" along the way. One proud dad. My daughter is also very interested in joining in a few years on the trail. Son has gone Turkey hunting for the past two years since age 8. Here is a grouse pic from this weekend.
