The Grim Reapers Thread

I procrastinated but I have finally started our thread.

Bow season has been very slow this year. I haven't been able to hunt as much as I have wanted. And the times I have been hunting, the hunting has been slow. It's been hot for the most part. The crops are out of the fields, so the bare fields don't attract many deer. There hasn't been many oak trees producing either. It's been a tough year all around. But I'll get out today to do some hunting. I'll have the bow ready if I can get a deer to parade by. Wish me luck.

No luck today. I saw 6 does

No luck today.
I saw 6 does this morning on the way to the stand, I woke up late today. They were traveling the ditch. I may set up in the ditch tommorrow or set up the ground blind.
Tonight the deer came out 400 yards from me. They walked straight to my other stand. Go figure!

Thanks. Hope your gets

Thanks. Hope your gets better. Knock 'em down and show us a pic. Thumbs up
In my part of the state, rifle season is going full blast. But it's like most other states, you can hunt with a rifle, bow, muzzleloader, shotgun and crossbow during rifle season, so I usually have the bow with me Justin case a fat doe saunders on by my stand.
Bear season started yesterday but I haven't seen any bears this year. Hopefully one will step out before Saturday night.

I saw two does early this

I saw two does early this morning after flipping the estrous can over a couple of times. They didn't stay around long. I'm guessing their mother has come into heat and is probably with a buck companion, hence their response to my can call. No bucks at all.
This afternoon I saw 3 does and 2 littles bucks with antlers inside their ears. Still again, nothing within bow range.
I have been hunting with my bow and rifle lately. Well, here is one of those 'oh, man' stories. While I was loading my gear into the truck this afternnon, I placed my bow on my toolbox. I loaded my pack and rifle and changed out my rubber boots for shoes for the trip home. Well, guess what I forgot to do. I forgot to get my bow off my toolbox. Luckily for me, it stayed on my toolbox for the entire 20 mile ride into town. Once into town, the guy behind me starts flashing his bright lights on and off. I looked into the mirror but I couldn't figure out what he wanted. I didn't recognize him so I figured he was flashing the lights at my lab in the back of the truck. I take off when the light turns green and the guy beside me pulls along side of me and starts waving. I roll down the window to hear him say, "your bow is on your toolbox." I pulled to the center median to stop and retrieve my bow. I may not have shot anything today but luck was with me.

Yeah, I agree. You're right.

Yeah, I agree. You're right. I'm thankful I didn't wake up this morning looking for a bow that wasn't there. I would never have goiten it back if it would have slipped off the toolbox.
In the stand this morning without the bow, so I will probably have a P & Y deer walk by at 25 yards because I believe I used up all my luck last night.
I will be updating the other thread as to what I see this morning. Good luck everybody.

No luck for me this morning.

No luck for me this morning.  I didn't see anything other than squirrels and dogs.  I am hoping the afternoon brings me better luck.  A storm is coming in so maybe they will be moving pretty good before dark.

Whitetail hunting is hours of boredom followed by minutes of extreme excitement, at least for me.

I made it back out this

I made it back out this afternoon with the bow...and rifle, just in case. I wasn't able to go to the stand I wanted to hunt because the farmer is cutting ditch banks and burning peanut hay near my stand so I headed to a different stand in the back of the farm...I'm trying to cheat the wind but maybe I'll get lucky....good hunting everyone.

Just my luck this

Just my luck this afternoon...I watched 5 does walk by the other stand I had been hunting...i'm having a difficult time picking the right stand to hunt when I take the bow...I'm to the point I think the does have a lookout watching me as I go to the stand...alright girls, he's headed to the west stand today, let's walk by his east stand...if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all..hope you all have better luck than I...
Good hunting.

Keep an eye out for a deer on

Keep an eye out for a deer on a hay bale.  It has been reported that is their new strategy for tracking hunters. Got it from a reliable source in IL.

At least your seeing deer.  I went out today and didn't see a thing at all.  I am going to go to a different location.  It is an hour longer drive, but I am needing to at least see deer.
