Just kidding.  Sounds like a nice morning to be in the woods, anyway.  I just talked to my Dad, who was out for the opener of muzzleloader this morning.  He saw nothing, and this afternoon is supposed to be 40 mile per hour winds.  He's not sure what he's gonna do.

Jim, sorry the deer didn't read the email I sent them. They must have lost their dial up connection. They were supposed to wade the swamp to island you're on and bed within 20 yards, close enough for an easy bow shot. Hahahaha

Stepping in a hole and filling your boot with cold water is a bad way to start the day. I don't know about you, but when my feet get cold, you can stick a fork in me. I'm done! I can't stay in the woods with cold feet, especially if I'm not seeing any deer. If I'm seeing deer, the adrenaline will keep my body warm enough.

Squirrels and ducks, it sounds like you need to break out the shotgun. At least you can scout the ducks patterns until the last segment of the season begins. The 19th can't come fast enough.  

Good luck to you, Jim. BTW, don't give up the deer season just yet. I don't know which post you'll see first, but there was a guy in the neighborhood who shot a 152" nine pointer yesterday, not a mile from where I have a trailcam pic.

I fought off the cold feet - it was only about 33 degrees and I had good socks - albeit wet ones!

Yes, I read about the 152 or 153 - that is a show stopper of a buck... December is SO hard for us, though...

I will make it at least one more weekend.

Incredibly long.... in game zone 6 (SE corner of state) rifle season is from 15 August to 1 January!!!

By all means take 30 days off and enjoy yourself in the woods. On me even, just leave your PC at home until about 1 January, is that deal?  I sure wish I could add a new .300 Ultra Mag to my small collection.  Enjoy yourself, take your time.  In all seriousness have a happy holidays to you and yours.  I wished I would have joined this site a few months back. I enjoy reading the posts and having the correspondence with you, Tndeerhunter, Ca_Vermonster and a couple of others. This is my one shot at fame.  Once I redeploy in January I wont have to time to make a run to the top like this.  But this is fun just reading and learning from good people.  Thanks guys, James.

I agree I would love to add a 300 to the collection, but if it never happens I have enough that will knock em down.  Heading out in the morning and looking to put some meat in the freezer.  The plan is to start to thin some of the doe that are on the farm.  But maybe that long ranger big boy will walk my way as well.  Its going to be a cold on though so im not sure how much live from the tree I will be able to post due to the gloves.  If I knew it would turn off and be this cold so soon I would have grown a beard for an extra layer
