Grandpas Winchester

There have been quite a few post about old rifles lately so I thought I would show off my granfathers old hunting rifle.

It's a Winchester 64 deluxe in .30wcf. This is the prize of my collection and I actually took my first rifle deer with it also.

Man, that's a beauty of a gun!

I will have to get some photos, but my Dad's .348 Winchester is a great looking gun too.

I actually may decide to hunt with it this fall, but we'll see.

Do you hunt with that one anymore, or did you retire it after getting your first deer?

It actually sat in the safe

It actually sat in the safe for most of the last 25 years but I was able to take a nice doe with it last year and my dad used it on a nice 4 point buck also. I waas impressed how the old 30-30 puts them down after using much bigger guns for so long.

I don't know if it's been

I don't know if it's been overtaken, but the 30-30 used to be far and away in the lead for the most deer taken.  East of the Mississippi it's still a popular rifle.

My dad and I both still hunt with them in Vermont.
