Grand River Outfitters Hale MO

Please be aware of this so called outfitter guys!!! It was my first paid hunt and will probably be my last. I did kill but did not get what the owner Don Cox sold our group on.

1. terrible food
2. food was served in smoking building so if you like a scent free environment this is not it.
3. my cabin had 16 hunters 1 toilet and shower
4. you rent the tand for the week you have to railse **** to get moved. He claims that if you aren't seeing deer its a good thing. He hasn't arrived yet is his motto.
5. claims he has highest success rate in US we had 48 hunters and only 7 deer killed.
6. he has pictures on internet and lodges of locals that have killed deer on their ownland
7. advertises 1 buck and 1 doe- he will not let you kill a doe or if he sys ok he sends you to a farm an hr away to sit in a metal chair and wishes you luck.
8. had a pit in back with entire deer just thrown away from the week before and could have donated to feed the hungry at local butcher
9. no guides just brother that follows him around on leash.
10. the only time he speaks to you is when you arrive that you owe him money
11. advertises bird hunting has no set up
12. cabins were dirty and never cleaned
13 Don Cox hunts the entire week you are hunting and you never see him. Claims he is seeing deer while you are seeing nothing!!
14. trail cam pics on internet are from refuge local farmers told our group that.

PLEASE BEAWARE THIS HUNT IS A SCAM WE WORK HARD FOR OUR MONEY TO ENJOY THE SPORT NOT FOR SOMEONE LIKE TO DON COX TO RIP US OFF.

That sucks! If you want to kill and grill look at http://www.hunt-private-land.com I have been a member for four years. They don't guide or cook you meals they just give you great farms to hunt.

Grand River outfitter Don Cox

Dude, I do not where you been hunting, but it is not the same place I have been hunting since 2006, and I am booked to hunt this year(2010) again with Grand River Outfitter.  My father shot the biggest deer of his life with Don in 2006 and it was a 158 BC ten pointer and that was not the biggest deer shot "by his hunter" that week thier was 184 BC killed amongst other really nice deer.  Don is very friendly and has always been very respectful, curtious and nice to all of us.  He is understanding and easy to talk to.  The only year I have not taken a buck was becuase I held out for a true trophy and past up many small bucks and I was still able to harvest a doe with no problem.

The food was much better than many places I have hunted before.  I have been hunting for 25 years and have hunted most of the United States with different outfitters and self guided hunts, so I know good when I see it.

Yes, I will agree that the main house is not scent free plenty of somking and the smell of fried food, however that did not keep my dad from killing his buck.

Besides the hunt Don Cox has a great group of hunter which keep returning year after year and we have made some great friendships and on that alone I would keep coming back to Grand River Outfitters it does not have to be all about the kill, although the hunting is great in my book as well.

One bad comment or review or one bad hunt should not tarnish a good mans business or reputation, I think that four years in a row of hunting with Don speaks for it self.

Ernesto

I was raised to respect everyones opinion, but mine and yours differ like oil and water on this. My first year out was in 06, although friends of mine had been going since 03 and finally talked me into going, Thank God. Being from NH and not always seeing many bucks, I shot the first buck I saw, which by the way was right at daylight. Not two minutes later, at least a 160 class buck appeared. Damn, I should have been more patient. That year, out of forty something hunters that were there, maybe one or two did not score, for whatever reason. In 07 I went with the intent of holding out for a 180 class buck, like Gary got the year before. By 10AM opening day, I had already passed on five 140 or so class bucks. That whole week I saw deer almost constantly, but no 180 class. That's okay, it was my choice and went home empty handed, but certainly didn't have to.

I personally don't have a problem with the accommodations, I've been in much worse and paid more money. It's hunting camp!

Don and Ron have always been professional in my opinion and have always been friendly and respectful towards me and other guests. The same people go back every year and bring new friends with them, because they have fun, see deer and enjoy it. That alone says something in itself. As well as the NH gang that continually goes every year, I have had the pleasure of meeting many new people whom I consider friends. Unfortunately one of men I had met there and have the utmost respect for and was looking forward to seeing again, has passed. Ernesto, I still think about you.

Due to health reasons I have missed the last three years, which drove me crazy thinking about what I was missing. This year, I'm going back and I can't wait!

Wow, it really does sound

Wow, it really does sound like you guys are talking about two different outfits. I think I might have an explanation. I heard that there are two different places out of Hale, MO named Grand River Outfitters. They are owned by twins who are both named Don (one is evil of course). The evil one is a real tool but the other guy is pretty nice and runs a decent outfit.  Sorry... I had to.

Or maybe Don is bipolar. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt cause that deer Ernesto is holding is no slouch!
