GPS hunting maps

Hey everyone. I've been lurking around here soaking up as much knowledge as I can find as my buddy and I prepare for our elk hunt later this year.  This site seems to have an enormous amount of resources and helpful people that regularly contribute.  One question I have is:  what mapping software do most people use for their GPS?  I have a Garmin Oregon 450 and would like to download a 1:24,000 topo map that I can use in conjunction with my USGS paper map. I would prefer a map I can mess around with on my computer (add points and trails) and be able to move that info to my GPS.  Thanks in advance.

I actually found a Garmin

I actually found a Garmin last year that had the chip from Hunting GPS Maps already installed in it and from what I have seen it does a lot of different things. I did have to purchase a adapter for it to fit into the SD slot on my computer but from what I understand the adapter comes with the mapping chip when you purchase it.

Trimble

Check out Trimble GPS Hunt and Fish website. Maps synched with my Android phone with Public land overlays allows me to see exactly where I am in the field. No data connection needed. It works with the phones GPS. Combined with "hard copy" maps it helps navigate thru public/private checkerboard with confidence. Has a lot of other applications I haven't used yet. But for me it was a great option as the year subscription - $30 or so, was a lot less than a new GPS.

Thanks Aaron, that may be a way to go too. For only $30 it's definitely something I might mess around with at least.
