The .303 is a fantastic caliber, completely overlooked outside Canada I think.
Up here there a tons of WW-I and WW-II surplus .303's around. A lot have been modified, "sporterized". You go into damn near any gun store and they've got an old military surplus .303 (sometimes a bunch of 'em).

A buddy of mine recently bought one for $125 and I was at the range with him and watched him shoot at 5 groups, every one was a 5-shot group and every one of those groups was under 1". That rifle is a shooter, inspite of being probably 70 years old. I would not want to get into a shooting range challenge against that gun!

The .303 will certainly kill any moose, elk, bear etc... that ever walked

i love my lee enfield

I picked up my first .303 for $20 from a guy getting divorced that said he would rather give his guns away than let his wife take them in his upcomming divorce. and for years it was my trusty back up rifle behind my 7mm rem magnum. I love it and will never sell it. I call it my pumpkin launcher because when you fire the 180 grain federals they are slow enough you can almost watch them lob at the target. Great rifle hope mine lasts forever.

I think the 303 brit. is an awesome round. I own four lee enfields and wouldn't hesitate to use any of them hunting. I'm not sure I would call it a "slow" round though. It exceeds the 30-30win, 300 savage, and a mere 150fps behind the 308 win.

Has anyone ever had their hands on an Ellwood Epps "improved" .303. He worked the shoulder/neck of the cartridge out from a 16 degree angle to about 35 degrees and there was quite a bit of performance improvment. I believe however that the P-14 model was best suited for this. This improvement was primarily for hand loaders and the brass could be fire formed.......just a piece of history now I suppose..................

Sounds like an interesting and capable conversion. To have the 303 at 30-06 levels would be awesome but how hard is it to get your hands on the brass or to form the brass yourself?
