Nice porker
I see your from TN. I am working about 1 hr south of Nashville right now. Will be here for a year or better. Get to go home for a week about once a month.
I was considering bringing down my bow and trying to do a hog hunt at some time while I was down here.
-When is the best time of year to hunt pigs in TN? (is there a season?)
-How far from Nashville will I have to travel (and what direction) to find pigs.
-Is stand hunting very successfull or do you really need dogs?
Thanks for any info

you are around 1.5hours to 2 hours from good hog hunting they are loaded with them on private land around catoosa wma and big south fork national river and rec area. the season is open year round except on catoosa the bsf has a special hog season that opens next week and runs through the last of feb. it'll be tough to bow hunt the critters you can stand hunt them but most of the success is with dogs we try to take the dogs on at least one hog hunt a month last weekend we killed 8 the big boar was the best of them he field dressed 200lbs. if there is anything else i can answer for ya just let me know.
Thanks for the info.
I am assumeing that even tho there is no season a TN hunting licence is required?
I do own a Ruger Deerfield carbine in 44mag would this be a good hog gun for hunting with dogs?
Are there any folks in those areas that guide/outfit for pig hunts. I am not into game farm hunts, fair chase only. (would still like to try with a bow?)
Any inf would be great, thanks
hey the 44mag is a good gun for a hog hunt dogs or not. i know a guy that runs a perserve that will let ya hunt with a bow behind his dogs if that is the way ya wanna do it. but other than that all ya need is a license and you are good to go. mabe if ya wanna tag along some time on a good hog hunt with hounds you can hook up with us and go if when we are going is good with your schedule

I sent you a PM but when I sent it my computer went kind of screwy. If you did not get it let me know.
no i didn't get it.
Yeah, I did not think it did.
Well you have given me some great information and I thank you for that. I am headed home on the 28th of this month and will be coming back down on the 15 of Feb (get to spend V day with the Mrs.). I need to get an ice fishing fix. I think I will bring the 44 back. If you are serious about letting someone you met on the internet tag along on a pig hunt sometime email me at
fickbohmej@cdm.com
Thanks
Eric
it won't bother me a bit to let ya tag along we'll have guns too, we may even make the trip worth while for ya and let ya knife one.
Sounds great, been a long time since I been in a good knife fight with a wild boar ![]()
it ain't much of a fight when the pit has a hold of him.
