Good places to hunt in Tennessee?

Hello, I'm possibly moving with my buddy down to his dad's house in Mt. joliet in february and i was interested in going Hunting for Deer, Bear and hogs while i was down there. I will be staying there for a year or so, maybe more. I have hunted with hounds up here in northern michigan and i would love to hog hunt behind a pack of hounds for the first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks. Bob.

Good places to hunt in Tennessee?

Welcome to BGH. There are some good WMA (state land) around that area. There are plenty of deer in the woods. A good place to start would be the TWRA's web site at http://www.tnwidlife.org This will let you know what the seasons are and where different species can be hunted. Bear season ends in December and deer hunting (rifle) starts 18 Nov. In TN they have 2 seperate deer season for rifle and they run 18 Nov - 3 Dec and 16 Dec - 7 Jan. Hope this helps you out before you get down here. When you go to get your license, you will need something (utility bill etc) with your name and new address on it to get the in-state license. Big smile

Thanks

yeah thank you very much, the plans are not set in stone to stay there but right now it would be for a few months but i would like to get ready so if i do stay then i will know where to hunt if i do in fact stay there...Tnhoundsman i will definitely look you up when i get there, i have been bear hunting a few times with hounds but have never taken a bear. I have read alot about hog hunting and would love to try it. Whats the deer hunting like down in TN, is there alot of state land? I would just like to go mainly bear and hog hunting. My buddy that i would be coming down with is into deer hunting also so i will definitely pass along what i have learned so far. Also, what are the job prospects like around nashville and also what do the jobs usually average for pay down there? thanks again guys appreciate all the help. Bob

Good places to hunt in Tennessee?

I lived near Detroit in Macomb County

The deer hunting is good, but the deer are alot smaller than what you would see in N MI... Im Mt Juliet there is WMA land that can be hunted real close by. All bear and hog hunting is done in East Tennessee and most all hound running of hogs has been abolished except in special hunts and on preserves.. The job issue isnt the greatest around Nashville... It really all depends on what you are looking for and same goes for pay...

There are a lot a companies currently relocating to TN in the past year, so the job market is not too bad. It just depends what you are looking for. The cost of living is a little lower that what you are used to in MI. Being a transplanted Cheesehead, I enjoy the fact that gas is cheaper here. There is a lot of state land in the area too. Most of the WMA's are over 1000 acres. I have not hunted any of the WMA's but have scouted the Cheatham WMA and seen quite a few nice racks. There size is smaller that what you are used to but, they are developing some nice racks on the bucks.
