Good Girl Gun...

I’m looking to get a new rifle with my girlfriend in mind. I’m looking at a 308 win and a 7mm Rem Mag. Just wondering what you think about each calibre. Does the 7mm have too much felt recoil? We have a 30-06 right now and are looking for something that will feel about the same or less. We will be hunting moose and Deer mainly. Have any other suggestions? Thumbs up

The 7mm is going to recoil a bit more than the 06 with all other factors being the same but the 308 recoils less and don't forget about the 270 win which is just a 30-06 necked down to the 270 round. Recoil reduced rounds are made for the 06 as well so that is another option.

If you want something in the 308 family how about the 7-08 rem.? My fiance is shooting a 257wby mag with a muzzle break, i dont know what you ARE GOING TO SPEND. BUT THE 7-08 REM IS ONE OF THE BETTER ROUNDS OUT THERE. it uses the 7mm bullets with alot less recoil then the magnum or the 308 for that matter.

i would say go for the 270. to me its a way better round then the 308. but if you have a 30-06 and she shoots it without any discomfort then i'd get another 30-06 as you cant go wrong with a 06'. where abouts are you? near bathurst? i'm in miramichi Thumbs up

My 10 yo son shoots a 7mm08 so I wouldn't think recoil of that caliber would be a problem for her.

7mm-08 is a dandy choice but you can still go a little heavier then that without much recoil Thumbs up

My 12 yr old son shoots a 300wby ultralite with the accubreak on it.

yes you could go bigger then the 7-08 but there really is no need to the 7-08 will do everything something bigger will do with alot less fanfare and the 7mm bullet is one of the best around for darn near anything.

You guys got me thinking in a new direction… The fist time I seen her get excited over a rile it was in a 270 wsm. I laughed because I didn’t think it would be any good on our moose hunts. However, I really want the 308 but I think I could go with 270 swm. Just wondering if it can handle the job?

yes it can. the 270 is a fine round weather it be the Winchester, Weatherby, or the short mag. with 150gr bullets it is fine medicin for elk, moose,.

yup i agree you cant go wrong with a 270 no matter which kind you get. had a 270 win for years in remington 7600 pump, regreted the day i sold that rifle,it shot so accurate for a pump gun. almost bought a 270wsm but opted for the 300wsm instead Thumbs up
