Going to Maine!

First post. Hello to the forum.

My hunting partner and I received word that we got a cow moose tag and will be hunting in Maine, district 17. We are from West Virginia and it isn't often guys from our parts get this opportunity so we are all kinds of excited. We are pretty much ready to go tomorrow!

I will say something about the folks in Maine. We in WV pride ourselves in being hospitable to those that visiting. The people we have been dealing with so far have been very helpful and extremely nice. Two people in particular have gone out of there way to help us get ready (we are doing the hunt DIY) and we have such a good feeling about our trip. I will certainly repay the kindness to any folks from Maine coming through our area!

We will be hunting moose, whitetail (bow) and grouse during the trip so it should be fun.

Be safe hunting friends.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the poor grammar! I was typing fast. I will certainly post some pics. Things are really taking shape. My hunting partner and I are experienced hunters, just not with moose. Even being fairly experienced we are learning new things and it is very exciting. Webster Springs is a beautiful part of WV. I agree with you about the people there; they are first class.

Our archery season for whitetails comes in as soon as we come back from Maine. Then we go into rifle season and black bear is the entire month of December. Our last DNR report said the black bear population is thriving now more than in a very long time. I found some scat about 14 feet from my front door so it should be a productive year! I should have some nice pictures to share this year.

Hi Brian,

Congratulations on getting drawn!

I've got a bit of knowledge about the western portion of zone 17 that I'd be happy to share if you'ld like. And yes, it's moosey there.

you should do great with the moose, lots of em. be prepared to haul it out, lots of heavy rope or cable and a block. we tie the hind feet together and use the block deadheaded to a tree or whatever and hook the other end to the rear of the truck. have a chainsaw to cut small trees and brush as they tend to hang up some. watch the rope if it beaks it snaps back fast!! 17 is a geat deer zone also.

Good calling can not only locate moose but it can bring them to you -- Go to http://www.gouthrosmoosemadness.com to see some video examples and an overview of the Moose Madness Series.

Shawn,

That's a gracious offer you've made to Brian.

Your website looks great. The photos take you right there! Just out of curiosity, what are you using for a ground cover in the photos ( the pictures showing a group seating area near the beach and also in front of the camp, a white rectangular shape)?

Thanks, - Jay
