Going to Espanola, Ontario in Sept for Black bear

I must have a mile of video that my hunters have taken over the years. One thing is consistent--most bears come into the bait, slowly eye the tree stand, often look up right at the hunter then head for the bait. Most know you're there and most don't care as long as you move slowly and quietly. So, don't fret whether you wear scent loc or not. I've watched my guys lather up with the stuff then head out the door with one of those stinky 'merican cigarettes going full blast.
As for the bear climbing the tree thing, it happens more often than not but usually a gentle shuffling of your feet will turn him around. Sometimes it may take a good knock on his skull with the heel of your boot to grab his attention though. Its always a great story but only in retrospect.

One good loud yell and he'll be gone like the wind and scent lok isnt needed really but you might wanna ask if they are used to any smells since your a lady try some vanilla perfume or spray that should cover your smell real good and the bears will like the smell and like bill said just be patient and get a nice broadside shot. Also like bill said dont be afraid if one comes in and leaves because he isnt going to go far and will surely be comming back for more so just wait it out. The bugs up here are still out in full force so the thermo cell should be packed just in case I use bug spray but I also get the bears used to it first Im not sure your guide will have done that so I dont reccommend using it at your bait unless he says the bears are used to it. If you can try to have over lying branches in front of you but not in your shot zone I like to make it hard for them to see me even if I make noise this year my treestand was high enough and covered by pine bows so they could here the camera going off but they had no clue from where.
