Biker, I can give you some great information on a great outfitter in British Colombia for a black bear hunt, and the nice thing about them is that it is driveable from Arizona.  It's not Alaska but they have some fantastic cabins back in the "back country" that you get to on horseback.

Not sure if it's available on all hunts but the one we booked with Cabelas's we also purchased insurance. Basically covers everything that might go wrong from lost items to a failed outfitter not showing up.

Just under $170 dollars seems well worth it after reading of your losses here.

I'm sure we won't always go through Cabela's but it does make things easier. Just saying.
