My old man and myself are embarking on our first Colorado Rocky Mountain adventure on September 6th. The plan is for him to do some fly fishing while I hike up into the woods to take a Elk with my sick and string. After reseraching in the Spring and taking alot of yall's advice, we decided on Unit 53. I can't express how excited I am that this trip andt that it is right around the corner. I have been studying the map, but I want to ask opinions of which part of the unit would have least amount of preasure.
We are planning on driving into the public land and setting up camp somewhere off the road. I was thinking about coming in via Crawford but I'm worried there will be alot hunters and people coming in that way. Do you guys have any suggestions which area or a road we should look at for access? I'm not asking for anyone's honey hole, just a general direction to avoid the masses. I plan on hiking in to hunt everyday so it doesn't matter if I'm hunting the state forrest or the Wilderness area, I won't have any wheels of any kind.
