Has anyone had success in the Holy Cross Wilderness during archery elk season? If not What wilderness areas would you recommend(for seeing elk and having a reasonable chance at) for a pack in bivouac hunt for archery season elk?
I trust your advice, you were on the money about the Comanche peaks (GMU 19). I crossed the peaks wilderness last season a few times and saw 2 bulls and no cows. It was hard hiking and hunting due to dead-fall. I did see 2 bull moose at 20 yards. but not what I was hunting. My dad and brother are coming from out of state, and I would like to make the trip worth the time and expense. Killing is one thing but just to have the opportunity to draw my bow back would be nice.
Here is the scenario... you sit in your 2 piece climbing stand and your foot inadvertently bumps the lower section while there is no weight on it - and it slides down the tree, out of reach!
OK, you are safe - you have a string tied from the upper section that you are sitting on and the foot portion that slid 4-5 feet down the tree. All you have to do it pull the other section up, reposition it and you are back in business, correct?
Have you ever tested this theory?
